Christmas is a very special time for family gatherings, Christmas cheer, and most importantly, basketball. The NBA has five matchups lined up for Christmas Day.

  1. Milwaukee Bucks vs. New York Knicks

The Milwaukee Bucks are always vicious at Madison Square Garden, but that’s just Giannis Antetokounmpo getting his revenge on the trash-talking Knicks players. In 2018, Mario Hezonja stepped over Giannis after dunking a fast-break dunk.

Giannis responded by jumping over the 6’5” Tim Hardaway Jr. in the Bucks’ 02/06/2018 matchup against the Knicks. The Knicks went 0-3 against the Bucks last season.

With new Knicks players like Jalen Brunson joining the team and providing a scoring lift with 24.0 points per game, the Knicks look ready to make a stronger push this time around.

  1. Philadelphia 76ers vs. Miami Heat

Next up, the 76ers are taking on the Heat and these two teams have been in talks of moving superstars. James Harden has been looking to get traded to the Los Angeles Clippers while Damian Lillard has been wanting to go to the Miami Heat.

It seems like the NBA is anticipating trades to happen before Christmas Day as it will be a very high competition matchup with the potentially updated rosters. The Heat beat the 76ers 2-1 in the 2022-23 NBA season, so it looks like this is going to be a must-see matchup.

  1. Boston Celtics vs. Los Angeles Lakers

The Celtics and Lakers have had a rivalry since 1959 and faced up 19 times between then and 2010. In the 2022-23 season, the Los Angeles Lakers (43-39) made it to the Western Conference Finals, and the Boston Celtics (57-25) made it to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Putting these two teams together for a Christmas matchup brings back a lot of competitive memories. Jayson Tatum and LeBron James will likely be the ones to bring their respective team victory.

  1. Dallas Mavericks vs. Phoenix Suns

After the Lakers-Celtics rivalry, NBA fans will be treated to the Mavericks and Phoenix Suns going head-to-head.

Before the All-Star Weekend, the Mavericks acquired Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets. This season, Irving will continue playing alongside the Mavericks’ leading scorer Luka Doncic who has averaged 32.4 points per game.

It will be great to see Doncic and Irving go up against Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns who were 2-2 when they faced off against each other last season.

  1. Golden State Warriors vs. Denver Nuggets

To top it all off, fans will watch Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors take on the defending champions, the Denver Nuggets. The 2023 NBA Champions facing off against such a lights-out shooter in Curry.

Curry averaged 29.4 points per game on 49.3 percent shooting from the field along with 42.7 percent from three-point range. That against an efficient shooter in Nikola Jokic who averaged 24.5 points per game on 63.2 percent shooting from the field looks like a fierce matchup.

Fans are going to have a cherry-on-top game to finish off the schedule of Christmas Day NBA Basketball.

The NBA on Christmas is always special with cheer and sometimes disappointment. Will your favorite team pull away with the victory? There’s only one way to find out and that’s to wait until Christmas Day.
