The Las Vegas Aces took on the New York Liberty at the Barclays Center in New York and prepared both teams prepared very well for the matchup. What will happen in today’s matchup at 3 PM EST?

The last game between these two teams occurred on Thursday, June 29, 2023, when the Las Vegas Aces soared to a 98-81 victory over the New York Liberty. As a matter of fact, this marked the Aces’ seventh straight win this season.

Breanna Stewart led the Liberty in points with 16 and Kelsey Plum with 18 points with an efficient 58.3% shooting percentage. Efficiency was the story of the game. The turnover-to-assist ratios are the two categories that serve as an overall takeaway from the game.

The New York Liberty had 17 turnovers to 21 assists while the Las Vegas Aces had eight turnovers to 32 assists. The turnover-to-assist ratio shows how efficiently a team is playing and in this case, the Liberty played sloppy basketball because instead of moving the ball around to find open looks, they were taking contested or difficult shot attempts.

What can the New York Liberty do to turn the ship around in today’s matchup?

The New York Liberty players need to find teammates who are open inside the three-point line. Breanna Stewart was efficient from inside the arc in both teams’ last matchup. She shot an overall 6-of-15 from the field and 1-of-4 from deep, but disregarding her three-point attempts, she would have been 5-of-11 which is a lot better.

All New York Liberty teammates just need to work together to score over the Las Vegas Aces’ defense. Sabrina Ionescu is the Liberty’s second-leading scorer behind Stewart with 16.4 Points Per Game. If she can create space before shooting the basketball, she would have more open looks that are more likely to go in.

The New York Liberty are on a three-game winning streak after getting two wins against the Los Angeles Sparks and one win against the Minnesota Lynx. If they get the win over the Aces today, they will be only 2.5 games behind first place in the entire league.

Even with great offense and stellar victories against other teams, the Las Vegas Aces’ team defense is something to look out for. Their defense has allowed opposing teams to score just 78.9 points compared to their 94.4 Points Per Game, which is a 15.5-point differential.

A New York Liberty victory over the Las Vegas Aces is possible, but without the right tools and strategies, it seems unlikely.
