He tossed a no-hitter facing the Rangers, giving the Padres the first no-hitter in franchise history.
Musgrove, who grew up in the San Diego area, ended a 53-year drought in which the Padres were the only team in MLB to throw a no-hitter.
Musgrove was making his second start for the Padres as they acquired him in the offseason via trade from the Pittsburgh Pirates was stellar in the outing.
He struck out 10 batters and threw 77 of his 112 pitches for strikes.
Musgrove made the only mistake in the fourth inning as he hit Rangers outfielder Joey Gallo with a pitch.
In the modern era, he became the eighth pitcher to throw a no-hitter in his first or second start with a team.
The last pitcher to earn that achievement was Clay Buchholz with the Boston Red Sox in 2007, per ESPN Stats & Info.

San Diego had gone 8205 games without a no-no, the second-longest streak in MLB history (1906-64 Phillies, 8944).

Musgrove’s no-hitter had a unique aspect as he did not throw a complete game in his previous 84 starts.
Musgrove’s outing was significant as tossing a no-hitter is very special, but doing it for a team, he grew up watching made it more special.
Catch him play later today against the Pirates where the Padres opened as favorites to win, according to Sports Betting Dime.
