The prior week in MLB was about a starting pitcher in the American League that underwent season-ending shoulder surgery, an outfielder placed on the injured list, and an outfielder in the National League dealing with a back injury.

Texas Rangers Starting Pitcher Jake Odorizzi Undergoes Season-Ending Shoulder Surgery

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi will miss the entire 2023 season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder several days ago, per Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.

During spring training, Odorizzi was dealing with arm issues, and the Rangers were forced to place him on the injured list in March.

The injury suffered by Odorizzi did not allow him to face live hitters during spring training.

The Rangers were optimistic that Odorizzi could give the club pitching depth, switching between the starting rotation and bullpen.

The right-handed pitcher will earn $6.5 million this season after exercising his player option for 2023 in November when he was still with the Atlanta Braves.

Odorizzi was coming off a decent 2022 MLB campaign split between the Braves and Houston Astros.

He compiled a 4.40 ERA in 106 1/3 innings pitched (22 starts) with 86 strikeouts, 35 walks yielded, 14 home runs allowed, a 91 ERA+, 4.28 FIP, and 1.32 WHIP.

Odorizzi has a 3.99 ERA in 11 MLB seasons, and hopefully, he will be healthy next season.

Chicago White Sox Place Outfielder Eloy Jimenez on Injured List with Hamstring Strain

The Chicago White Sox have placed outfielder Eloy Jimenez on the injured list with a low-grade left hamstring strain, per a team announcement.

Jimenez is expected to be sidelined two-to-three weeks with the hamstring injury, per James Fegan of The Athletic.

Jimenez was off to a slow start this year, as he went four-for-19 with two doubles and six strikeouts while only being the designated hitter.

Jimenez was superb in limited action last season for the White Sox, as he appeared in only 84 games.

He compiled a .295 batting average and .858 OPS with 40 runs scored, 86 hits, 12 doubles, 16 home runs, and 54 RBIs.

Last year, he suffered a right hamstring strain in late April, and he dealt with a nagging calf injury during spring training this year.

The White Sox will miss his presence in the lineup as he has shown the ability to hit for power.

The team should approach Jimenez cautiously and slowly ease him back into the lineup once he is healthy in a few weeks.

Atlanta Braves Place Outfielder Michael Harris II on Injured List with Lower Back Strain

Per a team announcement, the Atlanta Braves have placed outfielder Michael Harris II on the injured list with a lower back strain.

Harris, selected as the National League Rookie of the Year last season, suffered the injury on a stolen base attempt several days ago.

The Braves could have kept Harris out of a couple of games, but the smart move was placing him on the injured list.

Harris is an important player for the Braves, and they need him healthy to contend in a very competitive National League East division.
