HBU Senior righthander struck out 15 in a complete game victory over Central Arkansas

FRISCO, Texas – HBU senior righthander Jacob Coats has been named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week as voted on by the sports information directors and announced by the league office Monday.

Coats hurled the first nine-inning complete game of his career in Friday’s 7-1 victory over Central Arkansas. The Schertz, Texas, native struck out 15, establishing a new HBU single-game record in the NCAA Division I era. He allowed one run on three hits and walked three while throwing 146 pitches. Coats struck out the side in the fifth and struck out at least two in five other innings.

Senior second baseman Trent Franson earned honorable mention for Hitter of the Week. The Houston native hit safely in all four games against UCA and batted .700 (7-for-10) with two doubles, a triple, two RBIs, and two runs for the weekend.

The Huskies wrap up the regular season on the road against Southeastern Louisiana Thursday through Saturday in Hammond.
