The extension is unique in that contains various options for the team to exercise and options that Rodriguez can exercise as well.
The Mariners have club options that can extend the deal through the 2039 season, while Rodriguez controls a five-year player option that provides him guarantees through the 2034 season.
The deal is worth $210 million guaranteed and carries a possibility of maxing out as the longest and largest in MLB history at $470 million, per Daniel Kramer of MLB.com.

This is based on the variety of player and team options, it can be worth seven, 12, 15, or 17 years beyond the 2022 campaign.
The base is for seven years and $105 million beginning next year, plus a $15 million signing bonus, taking him through the 2029 season.
However, after the 2028 season, the Mariners must decide to pick up a club option that is dependent on how performs in the American League MVP Award voting.
The first club option is for eight or 10 years and ranges from $200 million to $350 million based on where Rodriguez finishes in MVP voting.
If the Mariners exercise their club option (which would happen after the 2028 season), the guaranteed value reaches $320 million and can be as high as $470 million.
If the Mariners decline the option after Rodriguez’s seventh season, he can exercise a player option following his eighth season in 2029 for five years and $90 million.
Rodriguez is having a stellar rookie campaign, as indicated by his .266 batting average and .797 OPS in 110 games with 114 hits, 65 runs scored, 19 doubles, three triples, 21 home runs, 65 RBIs, and 23 stolen bases.
The contract could mean Rodriguez spends his entire career with the Mariners, and if he helps the franchise win a couple of World Series, that will be a worthy long-term investment.

Glasnow is in the final stages of recovering from Tommy John surgery that happened in August 2021, he would have been eligible for free agency following the 2023 season.
The Rays are hopeful that Glasnow can return to the mound at some point this season.
He could make his season debut in September as long as there are no setbacks once he starts a rehab assignment.
