Detroit Tigers Miguel Cabrera Becomes 33rd Member of 3,000-Hit Club
Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera reached a significant milestone in Saturday’s contest against the Colorado Rockies as he became the 33rd member of the 3,000-hit club.

The milestone occurred during his first at-bat in Game 1 of a doubleheader with a one-out single off Rockies starting pitcher Antonio Senzatela.
Cabrera became the seventh player in major-league history to collect 3,000 hits and 500 home runs, joining Hank Aaron, Albert Pujols, Willie Mays, Eddie Murray, Alex Rodriguez, and Rafael Palmeiro.
Cabrera reached the milestone in vintage fashion as he laced an 86-mph pitch into right field.
Following the special moment, other members of the 3,000-hit club welcomed Cabrera into the exclusive group.

The Miami Marlins also gave Cabrera congratulations on the accomplishment.

He spent the first five seasons of his career with the then-Florida Marlins, collecting 842 hits in 720 games.
Cabrera is bound for Cooperstown when he becomes eligible, as he has had a tremendous career filled with unforgettable moments.
He will be remembered as one of the best right-handed hitters in history.
Colorado Rockies Sign Starting Pitcher Kyle Freeland to Five-Year Contract Extension
The Colorado Rockies have signed starting pitcher Kyle Freeland to a five-year contract extension, according to a team announcement.

The contract is worth $64.5 million and includes a sixth-year player option, per sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN.
Left-hander Kyle Freeland and the Colorado Rockies are in agreement on a five-year, $64.5 million contract that includes a sixth-year player option, sources familiar with the deal told ESPN. Freeland, a homegrown player and Denver native, is staying home through at least 2026.

The $17-million player option for Freeland depends on whether he can throw at least 170 innings in 2025, per Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Freeland can opt out of the deal following the 2024 season if he finishes top five in the Cy Young voting in 2022 or 2023, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Freeman has posted a 4.27 ERA in 668 innings pitched over six seasons with the Rockies.
He has also compiled a 115 ERA+, 4.53 FIP, and a 1.41 WHIP.
Freeman has shown he can be a decent starting pitcher during his time with the Rockies.
The team made a wise decision by signing him to a team-friendly extension.
Baltimore Orioles Starting Pitcher John Means Will Undergo Tommy John Surgery
The Baltimore Orioles will be without starting pitcher John Means for the rest of the 2022 campaign.
After undergoing multiple MRIs, Means tweeted that he needs to undergo Tommy John surgery on Saturday.

For precautionary reasons, Means was removed from his April 13 start against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Then, he was placed on the injured list two days later with a left elbow strain.
Means posted a 3.38 ERA in eight innings pitched (two starts) with seven strikeouts, two walks, zero home runs allowed, a 117 ERA+, and 2.04 FIP.
The Orioles losing Means for the entire 2022 MLB season is a significant loss as he was solid for the team last year.
He compiled a 3.62 ERA in 146 2/3 innings pitched (26 starts) with 134 strikeouts, 26 walks issued, 30 home runs yielded, a 126 ERA+, 4.62 FIP, and 1.03 WHIP.
