Los Angeles Angels Place Shohei Ohtani on Injured List with Season-Ending Oblique Injury

The 2023 season for superstar Shohei Ohtani is over as the Los Angeles Angels have placed him on the injured list with an oblique strain, per Sam Blum of The Athletic.

Ohtani has been sidelined since Sept. 3 with an oblique injury.

He was previously shut down from pitching as he has a tear in his UCL (ulnar collateral ligament).

Ohtani had an otherworldly 2023 campaign on the mound and as a hitter.

He posted a 3.14 ERA in 132 innings pitched (23 starts) with 167 strikeouts, 55 walks issued, 18 home runs allowed, a 145 ERA+, a 4.00 FIP, a 1.06 WHIP, and one complete game as a pitcher.

Then, on the side of the spectrum, he compiled a .304 batting average and 1.066 OPS in 135 games with 102 runs scored, 151 hits, 26 doubles, eight triples, 44 home runs, 95 RBIs, 20 stolen bases, and 183 OPS+ as a hitter.

There is uncertainty regarding his future, as he will be a free agent at the end of the season and will need an operation to repair his UCL.

He is a favorite to win his second American League MVP Award.

He will likely receive one of the most significant contracts in MLB history, regardless of his availability for 2024 the season.

Ohtani is a particular player and had a memorable 2023 season.

Boston Red Sox Fire Chaim Bloom After Four Seasons

The Boston Red Sox fired their chief baseball officer, Chaim Bloom, several days ago, per a team announcement.

Red Sox owner John Henry said, “While parting ways is not taken lightly, today signals a new direction for our club.”

The Red Sox hired Bloom in October 2019, and the club made the postseason once in his four years, reaching the ALCS before losing to the Houston Astros in 2021.

Red Sox general manager Brian O’Halloran was offered a new senior leadership position within the baseball operations department.

O’Halloran and assistant general managers Eddie Romero, Raquel Ferreira, and Michael Groopman will continue to run the day-to-day operations until the Red Sox hire a replacement for Bloom.

Cleveland Guardians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti and Oakland Athletics general manager David Forst are possible candidates to become the next president of baseball operations for the Red Sox, per Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

New York Yankees Outfielder Jasson Dominguez Needs to Undergo Tommy John Surgery

The outfielder posted a .980 OPS with four home runs and seven RBIs across eight games.
