The last week in MLB was about a pitcher in the National League being placed on administrative leave, a pitcher making his way back from injury will not return this season, and a starting pitcher in the American League is out for the season with a strained left oblique.

MLB Places Los Angeles Dodgers Pitcher Julio Urias on Administrative Leave

Major League Baseball has placed Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias on paid administrative leave until further notice, per Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post.

Urias was arrested last week on a felony charge of corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant.

“Per an agreement between MLB and MLBPA, Julio Urias has been placed on administrative leave until further notice as MLB continues its ongoing investigation,” the league mentioned in a statement gathered by Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

Urias did have a scheduled bobblehead night on Sept. 21, but the Dodgers are replacing that with another promotion for select premium bobbleheads, per Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.

Urias was arrested in May 2019 for domestic battery but was not charged with the arrest.

However, MLB did suspend him for 20 games.

Urias is likely facing a longer suspension, depending on what happens with the investigation.

New York Yankees Starting Pitcher Luis Severino Out for Season with Strained Left Oblique

New York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Severino is out for the 2023 season with a high-grade left oblique strain.

Severino left his last start against the Milwaukee Brewers in the fifth inning following a leadoff single.

After tossing his 70th pitch of the outing, Severino dropped his glove in the front of the pitching mound and was in noticeable pain.

He was holding his left side near his oblique and was replaced by Jhony Brito after being checked by an athletic trainer and manager, Aaron Boone.

Severino will be a free agent after the end of the season.

He struggled this season pitching for the Yankees.

The right-handed pitcher posted a 6.65 ERA in 89 1/3 innings pitched (18 starts) with 79 strikeouts, 34 walks issued, 23 home runs allowed, a 65 ERA+, a 6.15 FIP, and a 1.64 WHIP.

He had better results last season with the Yankees as he compiled a 3.18 ERA in 102 innings (19 starts) with 112 strikeouts, 30 walks yielded, 14 home runs surrendered, a 123 ERA+, a 3.70 FIP, and a 1.00 WHIP.

The Yankees probably will not re-sign Severino even on a one-year deal, as he does not look like the same pitcher who was an All-Star in 2018.

Los Angeles Dodgers Pitcher Walker Buehler Not Returning in 2023

Per a team announcement, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler will not return to the club this season.

Buehler underwent Tommy John surgery last August and was going through rehab with the hope of returning this season for the Dodgers.

He first appeared at Triple-A last week and struck out two batters over two scoreless innings.

The Dodgers have been forced to use three rookie pitchers in their rotation with injuries to Dustin May, Tony Gonsolin, Buehler, and Julio Urias being placed on administrative leave.
