The last week in MLB was about a catcher in the American League who will undergo wrist surgery, a shortstop was placed on the injured list with a thumb sprain, and an outfielder was placed on the injured list with a fractured foot.

New York Yankees Catcher Jose Trevino Will Undergo Wrist Surgery, Likely Miss Rest of Season

New York Yankees catcher Jose Trevino will need surgery for a tear in his right wrist, and he will likely miss the rest of the season, per a team announcement.

Trevino has been playing with the injury throughout the 2023 season.

The catcher believes that surgery is the next logical move and is uncertain when he got hurt other than feeling pain during spring training.

Trevino struggled at the plate this season, as indicated by his .210 batting average and .570 OPS in 55 games with 15 runs scored, four doubles, four home runs, 15 RBIs, and 58 OPS+.

He had a breakout 2022 season with the Yankees by posting a .248 average and .671 OPS in 115 games with 39 runs scored, 12 doubles, one triple, 11 home runs, 43 RBIs, and a 91 OPS+.

He was also selected as an MLB All-Star and won a Gold Glove in 2022.

Hopefully, Trevino will have better success next season.

Texas Rangers Place Shortstop Corey Seager on Injured List with Thumb Sprain

Per a team announcement, the Texas Rangers have placed shortstop Corey Seager on the injured list with a right thumb sprain.

Seager expects that he will remain on the IL for about two weeks as there is no structural damage, per Jeff Wilson of Rangers Today.

Seager injured his thumb a few days ago when he slid into second base against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The loss of Seager is monumental for the Rangers’ lineup.

The shortstop has posted a .350 average and 1.044 OPS in 66 games with 47 runs scored, 29 doubles, 15 home runs, 58 RBIs, an 182 OPS+, and leads the American League with a .413 on-base percentage.

Seager having a terrific 2023 campaign at the plate is one reason the Rangers are in first place in the AL West.

The team needs Seager healthy to maintain their lead in the division and have success when the postseason begins.

Seattle Mariners Place Outfielder Jarred Kelenic on IL with Fractured Foot

Per a team announcement, the Seattle Mariners have placed outfielder Jarred Kelenic on the injured list with a fractured left foot.

Kelenic suffered the injury after kicking a water cooler in frustration after striking out in a game last week, manager Scott Servais said, according to Shannon Drayer of KIRO.

Per Drayer, the Mariners did not mention when they expect Kelenic to return, but the injury will not require surgery.

The loss of Kelenic is crushing for the Mariners, as he is having a solid season.

The MLB outfielder has compiled a .252 average and .759 OPS in 90 games with 43 runs scored, 24 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, 45 RBIs, 12 stolen bases, and a 113 OPS+.

Hopefully, Kelenic will only be out for a few weeks, as the Mariners need him in their everyday lineup.
