Houston Astros Starting Pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. Out for Season After Forearm Surgery

Houston Astros starting pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. will be out for the rest of the season after he underwent surgery on his right forearm to repair a flexor tendon and remove a bone spur, per a team announcement.

McCullers had suffered the injury during Game 4 of the 2021 ALDS but aggravated it throwing a bullpen session during spring training last February.

The right-handed pitcher did not throw a pitch for the Astros this MLB Season.

Due to a flexor tendon strain, McCullers was limited to eight starts in the regular season last year.

The last healthy season for McCullers occurred during the 2021 campaign, as he posted a 3.16 ERA in 162 1/3 innings pitched (28 starts) with 185 strikeouts, 76 walks issued, 13 home runs allowed, a 136 ERA+, 3.52 FIP, and a 1.22 WHIP.

The loss of McCullers for the season is significant for the Astros as they thought he would be in starting rotation.

Hopefully, he has no setbacks during rehab and can pitch for the club next season.

Kansas City Royals First Baseman Vinnie Pasquantino Out for Year with Torn Labrum

According to a team announcement, Kansas City Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino will need shoulder surgery and will be out for the rest of the 2023 season.

The operation for Pasquantino will repair a torn labrum.

Pasquantino was initially placed on the injured list in early June with right shoulder instability.

The first baseman had a decent season for the Royals.

He compiled a .247 batting average and .762 OPS in 61 games with 57 hits, 24 runs scored, 17 doubles, nine home runs, 26 RBIs, and a 109 OPS+.

The Royals hoped he could build off a strong rookie campaign, as he had a .295 average and .832 OPS in 72 games in 2022 with 76 hits, 10 doubles, 10 home runs, 26 RBIs, and a 135 OPS+.

The Royals are having a dreadful 2023 season, as they are last in the American League Central and have the second-worst record in MLB.

The Royals hope Pasquantino has no setbacks in the recovery process and will be healthy going into next season.

Los Angeles Dodgers Place Infielder Max Muncy on IL with Hamstring Strain

Per a team announcement, the Los Angeles Dodgers have placed infielder Max Muncy on the injured list with a hamstring strain.

The strain for Muncy is low-grade, and the Dodgers are optimistic he can come off the injured list when eligible.

Muncy is having a strange season hitting for the Dodgers.

He has posted a .191 average in 60 games but has a .796 OPS with five doubles, 18 home runs, and 45 RBIs.
