San Diego Padres Place Third Baseman Manny Machado on Injured List with Left Hand Fracture

The San Diego Padres have placed third baseman Manny Machado on the injured list with a left-hand fracture, per a team announcement.

This marks the first time Machado has been placed on the IL since 2014, per Dennis Lin of The Athletic.

Machado suffered the injury after being hit by a pitch in a game last week against the Kansas City Royals.

Machado is off to a slow start for the Padres this season.

The MLB infielder has posted a .231 batting average and .654 OPS in 40 games with 18 runs scored, seven doubles, five home runs, 19 RBIs, and two stolen bases.

Machado produced better numbers last year, finishing second in National League MVP voting.

He compiled a .298 average and .898 OPS in 150 games with 100 runs scored, 37 doubles, one triple, 32 home runs, 102 RBIs, and nine stolen bases.

The loss of Machado is a big blow to the Padres as they have started the year slowly and are in fourth place in the NL West.

The team is hopeful that Machado will not be injured for too long, as they will need him to turn things around.

Los Angeles Dodgers Place Starting Pitcher Dustin May on Injured List with Elbow Injury

The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed starting pitcher Dustin May on the injured list with a right flexor pronator strain, said manager Dave Roberts, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.

May suffered an elbow injury in his last start.

The plan for May is to receive a PRP injection to address the strain.

They hope this will allow him to avoid surgery and return within four to six weeks, says Ardaya.

The right-handed pitcher underwent Tommy John surgery to fix a torn ulnar collateral ligament during the 2021 season.

There were tests done that showed that the UCL for May is not damaged from this current injury.

The injury to May is significant for the Dodgers as he has been one of the better pitchers in their rotation.

He has posted a 2.63 ERA in 48 innings pitched (nine starts) with 34 strikeouts, 16 walks issued, one home run yielded, a 168 ERA+, 3.28 FIP, and a 0.93 WHIP.

Los Angeles Dodgers Place Starting Pitcher Julio Urias on IL with Left Hamstring Strain

Per a team announcement, the Los Angeles Dodgers have placed starting pitcher Julio Urias on the injured list with a left hamstring strain.

The move is retroactive to May 19.

Urias is having a decent season for the Dodgers, as indicated by his 4.39 ERA in 55 1/ 3 innings pitched (10 starts) with 53 strikeouts, 11 walks issued, 14 home runs surrendered, a 100 ERA+, 5.32 FIP, 1.15 WHIP.

The MLB team is hopeful the injury is something that does not linger on throughout the season.
