Feast On Wake Forest Football — Then Have Carolina For Dessert

Read Time:2 Minute, 36 Second

The Boston College Screaming Eagles will be flying into Winston-Salem this weekend, no doubt expecting to get a full-blown double-exposure to the delayed read pass option mesh offensive juggernaut that is Wake Forest.

They’ll struggle to stop it. Every team does – including Clemson. They won’t stop it. They know it. We know it.

Starting with Saturday’s game, the rest of Wake’s ACC football season shapes up to be one high-drama thrilla after anotha with ACC Championship and big bowl game opportunities at stake all over the place.

Bring on BC. Mesh up Louisville. Then march over to Carter Finley Stadium for a feud with our old familiar foes from NC State. We’ll serve up our favorite dish: the delayed mesh special. Hearty main courses, all these games.

Then comes the piece de resistance, a fine-tasting dessert: Carolina.

Circle the date on your calendar (no doubt you already have).

November 12th.

At Truist Field. Over by the Joel Coliseum. You know.

For state pride, for revenge for ripping our hearts out last year, this game means everything. You all remember what happened a year ago in Chapel Hill. I don’t need to remind you. It was deathly, odious. I’m still not over it. Never will be.

The good news is this past weekend stoked our internal fires to boiling levels for that upcoming game with the baby blue bloods.

Wasn’t it wonderful to hear how great Drake Maye is all weekend on the ACC Network? And weren’t you thrilled he won ACC Player of the Week for playing fabulously against Duke? I’m so glad Carolina is having such a fine football season but it’s made all the more special because their basketball team has been named preseason number one in the country. Sports superiority.

Ralph.

Think back a few weeks. Remember what it was like at Truist Field when Clemson came to town? Noise in that stadium roared. People everywhere. Count on it being even louder when Carolina visits our place. Everyone and then a bunch of other people will be there.

November 12 — a day that will live in Wake Forest football fame. November 12 – a day our demons from last season at Kenan Stadium finally will be yanked from our innards and fly away over near Chapel Hill someplace, gone, goodbye.

We’ve got to beat Carolina in football this season. This is our moment. Our time is now. Opportunities like this are precious and fleeting.

Have you noticed Sam Hartman is not getting the love he deserves compared with all the gushing about Drake Jump in a Lake? This Drake Come Lately has to put up big numbers in the clutch for three more years to even be considered among all-time great ACC quarterbacks the way Hartman already is.

Carolina will be cocky coming over here. They’re always cocky – about everything.

But November 12th will be different. Win we will. Then party – into the late hours. The Quad will get rolled. The field will be stormed.

Goalposts – you’re going down.
