About the Eagles…

Boston College is 5-6 on the season and 3-2 through the first two legs of its spring break trip across Florida. The Eagles are hitting .299 as a team with sophomore first baseman Joe Vetrano leading the way at .468. Vetrano, who had just 27 at-bats as a rookie, has collected a hit in all 11 games this season. He leads BC in nearly every major offensive category, including home runs (4), RBI (20), OBP (.545), and slugging (.872). Senior right-hander Joe Mancini has ascended to the Friday night role and turned in a 2-0 record and 2.30 earned run average through three starts.

All-Time vs. Miami…

The Hurricanes lead the all-time series with the Eagles, 25-10, including 17-2 in Coral Gables. Boston College is 3-2 against Miami in postseason play with the Hurricanes claiming the 2016 Super Regional in three games and the Eagles earning ACC tournament victories in 2009 and 2010.

Last Time They Met…

Boston College’s lone ACC series win of 2021 came against Miami at home. The Eagles won the opener, 13-0, and the rubber-match 11-6. In game two, the Hurricanes held on for a 2-1 win. Emmet Sheehan turned in six shutout innings of one-hit ball with nine strikeouts in game one. Luke Gold drove in six runs as he passed up the cycle for his second double of the day in the finale.

ACC Openers…

Boston College is 5-11 all-time in ACC openers, beginning with a 2-1 loss at No. 22 NC State in 2006. The Eagles are 3-8 under Mike Gambino following a 10-6 win over No. 11 Duke. BC has faced a ranked team in 15 of 16 ACC openers and a top-10 nine times, including each year from 2016-19.

ACC Experience…

BC went just 10-23 in the ACC last season and returns just 42% of its ACC at-bats to the lineup and 44% of ACC innings to its staff. Accounting for the loss of Vince Cimini for the season, the Eagles return just 33% of their experience at the plate in league play. Senior catcher Peter Burns brings the greatest wealth of experience against the league with 52 starts; all behind the dish. For senior RHP Mason Pelio, 22 of his 32 career starts have come against ACC opponents, including a 2019 tournament game, but he enters the weekend with just one inning on the mound this season.
