Lying in bed last night with my bulbous belly up and dwindling hair scattered like singular strands of straw, I thought about the importance of being a credible person. Then a song hit my head: “Losing My Religion” by REM. All at once, Sammy Sportface was faced with a jolt of reality.
I wondered if I was losing my credibility as the godfather of the Baby Boomer Brotherhood (BBB) movement. Without credibility, how can this mission go anywhere? Bereft of credibility, who will be able to – or even want to – share the vision that Sammy Sportface has to galvanize, inspire and amuse men between the ages of 55 and 75?
I’m concerned no one believes Sammy Sportface is credible. I’m worried I’ve lost my credibility. I’m beginning to think this vision I have is flawed and unsustainable because I’m acting in a conniving, deceitful, and underhanded way. Guys aren’t buying into my belief system and I think it’s because they don’t believe anything I write.
Last week I invited BBBs out to breakfast but nobody believe it was a real invitation so they didn’t show up. You can see how this could be a problem when trying to build a world-class business empire. When people don’t believe, they don’t follow. When you’re not credible, you can’t persuade. You forfeit your ability to influence. You’ve lost your credibility.
So to regain my credibility, I’m making a New Year’s Resolution to always tell the truth in anything I write in 2022. No more deflections and misdirections and side-winding BS. You guys deserve better than that. You deserve to be told the truth. No one can expect you to follow a cause led by a guy who can’t be trusted.
You need someone with rock-solid credibility. I’ll admit I’ve lost my credibility but in 2022 my number one goal is to find it so this BBB can get back on track and become the international powder keg we all want it to be.
