Chicago White Sox Sign Starting Pitcher Lance Lynn to Two-Year Extension

The Chicago White Sox have agreed to a two-year, $38-million contract extension with starting pitcher Lance Lynn and includes a club option for 2024, per a team announcement.

The 2024 option is worth $18 million, and the extension includes bonuses for Cy Young finishes 1, 2, and 3, per Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Lynn, who was selected as an All-Star for the second time in his career, is having an impressive 2021 season with the White Sox.

The right-hander has posted a 1.99 ERA in 90 2/3 innings pitched (16 starts) with 105 strikeouts, 31 walks issued, nine home runs surrendered, a 215 ERA+, 3.21 FIP, and 1.03 WHIP.

The White Sox acquired Lynn from the Texas Rangers during the offseason to strengthen their rotation, and the results have been great.

Lynn was set to become a free agent once the 2021 season ended, so it was a smart move by the White Sox to sign Lynn to an extension.

New York Mets Place Shortstop Francisco Lindor on Injured List with Oblique Strain

The New York Mets have placed shortstop Francisco Lindor on the injured list with a right oblique strain, the team announced days ago, per Tim Britton of The Athletic.

Lindor said he is dealing with a Grade 2 strain, according to Britton.

Lindor was forced to leave a game several days ago with soreness on his right side following a ground out.

The shortstop has compiled a .228 batting average and .702 OPS in 87 games with 11 doubles, one triple, 11 home runs, 36 RBIs, and eight stolen bases.

He has struggled at the plate in his first season with the Mets but has been steady with his glove at shortstop.

Lindor might be sidelined for many weeks as an oblique strain takes time to heal, and you do not want to come back soon to exacerbate the injury.

New York Mets Starting Pitcher Jacob deGrom Dealing with Forearm Tightness

New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom will miss his next scheduled start as he felt tightness in his forearm throwing on Friday, said manager Luis Rojas, per Tim Britton of The Athletic.

The right-hander did undergo an MRI, which revealed no structural damage in his forearm, but he will not throw again until the tightness is gone, says Britton.

deGrom is having a phenomenal season on the mound.

He has compiled a 1.08 ERA in 92 innings pitched (15 starts) with 146 strikeouts, 11 walks yielded, six home runs allowed, a 361 ERA+, 1.24 FIP, and 0.55 WHIP.

The numbers on the mound are otherworldly, but deGrom has dealt with a litany of injuries during the 2021 campaign, including flexor tendinitis, side tightness, and shoulder soreness.

A healthy deGrom is the best pitcher in MLB by a significantly wide margin.

The Mets are hopeful that their staff ace will not be sidelined for a long time as they need him healthy to win the National League East division.
