The Dallas Cowboys were expected to go heavy on the defensive side of the ball in the NFL Draft. They did just that by selecting eight of their 11 players on defense, including each of the first six picks.

America’s Team didn’t completely ignore offense though. They added offensive tackle Josh Ball in the fourth round and got some interior help with guard Matt Forniok in the seventh round. Sandwiched in between them was the Cowboy’s only skill position player picked on offense, Stanford wide receiver, Simi Fehoko.

Although he wasn’t a high draft selection, Fehoko doesn’t lack confidence in his game as he tries to carve out a roster spot in Dallas.

“With my God-given abilities and skills, there’s no reason I can’t be the best receiver in this draft class, if not the league,” Fehoko said, according to the team’s website.

Fehoko was all over the field during his time at Stanford. He lined up not only on the outside but also in the slot, giving him tremendous position flex. At 6’4 he uses his frame to wall off defenders and make contested catches by high pointing the ball. Natural hands and has a huge catch radius. Possesses great speed (ran 4.39 in the 40-yard dash) and can contribute on special teams (block a field goal attempt in 2020).

The former Cardinal put his name in the record books as well. In 2019, his 23.6 yards per catch set a school record. In his final collegiate game last season against UCLA, he set another school record for receptions in a game with 16 and his 230 yards were the third-most in school history.

One person that’s already on the Fehoko bandwagon is Cowboys Vice President of Player Personnel Will McClay as he explained on 105.3 The Fan when discussing the team’s draft class.

“He was a guy that, you know, you look at the physical measurables and you say, ‘Boy, there’s something there.’ Because again, we’re always looking — if you look at everybody’s draft, they’re always looking for the big, athletic guy with the high, you know, athletic spark score or whatever,” McClay said. “But then they have to be able to play football. And you see his measurables, you see him play and you see him, as you said, being a clutch guy for them. And he’s just got this ‘it’ about him as a player, and he hasn’t achieved his full ceiling yet, so I’m excited to get him with our offense and with wide receivers coach Adam Henry, who I have been around for a couple of years.”

Special teams may be where he contributes the most at first but Fehoko’s raw talent of speed and athleticism make him an intriguing weapon to groomed into a viable option for Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys passing attack.
