In the past, I have talked about how important it is for the USF Bulls to have more wins in 2023. That will fall on the shoulders of new head coach Alex Golesh. The program started in 1997 with a bang as the USF Bulls defeated Kentucky Wesleyan 80-3. Then in 2007, the team reached the number two ranking in the country. In the early years as an Independent, they beat Notre Dame, Miami, Florida State, Clemson, Auburn, South Carolina, and West Virginia, just to name a few. The Bulls have had 26 full seasons and they have spoiled their fan base by having 15 winning seasons. USF had back-to-back 10-win seasons in 2016 and 2017. Since then, they won only 15 in the last five seasons. The last three have been the worse winning just four total games. One of them came against a fellow FBS opponent.
The Bulls just announced they will be opening a new on-campus stadium in 2026. The program needs to have a major turnaround. They thought they had it with after the last winning season under Charlie Strong. They hired Jeff Scott, who at the time was the offensive coordinator for the Clemson Tigers. The most wins under Scott in a single season was two. The FBS opponent that they beat was the Temple Owls. The new stadium is going to cost the school $340 million. What has been reported is that the school is going to take a $200 million dollar loan. That means that are leveraging a lot if the program remains where it is now. Alex Golesh not only has to get the Bulls back on track this season but moving forward into the future. From what I saw at the spring game it looks good.
Many USF Bulls fans want to see the team be more competitive. They need to win more than one or two games per season. Some experts have the team winning just that amount and others have them winning maybe four. They have the Alabama Crimson Tide coming in for the third game of the season and second home game. We all know that they probably will not win that one but it would be one of the biggest upsets in college football if it does happen. The new 35000-seat stadium will be much easier to fill than Raymond James where they play now. It will also make the easier for the students who live on campus to attend football games. One of the major factors is fans are impatient when it comes to a program turning around. the hope is that Golesh can get the program back on a winning track.
The pressure is on to have a somewhat winning season. the first step is to get six wins. That means they would make a bowl game for the first time since 2019. That would be the start of the program turning around. Golesh will have to get the players in here that fit his system. While at both UCF and Tennesse under Josh Huepel, they ran a high-moving style of offense. That could work even though it is hard to recruit in the state of Florida. The players that are brought in if they are coached properly, which I believe can happen under Golesh. The season is getting ready to kick off in just three short months but until then, horns up.

I would like to point out that your journalism is not accurate. USF was independent, then C-USA, joined the Big East (which imploded) and now part of the AAC. We are one of two programs to eclipse 100 wins in less (Boise State) and first school to ever reach the #2 the fastest in the BCS era.
We are a very young program, however have had a few down years similar to all programs. Before writing about a school, do some research.
