The Tampa Bay Rays enjoyed another impressive week, even though they stumbled during the final two games. They finished the week with a 4-2 record from June 30 through July 5. As a result, Tampa Bay improved to 52-35 and kept the best record in the American League. The club also carried a nine-game winning streak before Houston ended the run during the holiday weekend. The week started with a three-game road series against the Kansas City Royals. Tampa Bay’s offense came alive immediately. The Rays rolled to a 10-4 victory on June 30 behind a balanced attack. Several hitters contributed throughout the lineup, and the team built momentum for the rest of the trip.
Next, the pitching staff took over on July 1. The Rays blanked the Royals 4-0 and controlled the game from the opening inning. Strong pitching limited Kansas City’s offense, while timely hitting supplied enough runs to secure another victory. Consequently, Tampa Bay continued to build confidence on both sides of the ball. The Rays completed the sweep on July 2 with a 5-2 win. Their offense once again delivered key hits, while the pitching staff protected the lead. Therefore, Tampa Bay finished the series with three straight victories and headed to Houston riding plenty of momentum.
The winning continued on July 3 against the Astros. Tampa Bay claimed a 3-1 victory and stretched its winning streak to nine games. The Rays received another quality pitching performance and continued to play fundamentally sound baseball. Their consistent play helped them strengthen their position atop the American League standings; however, the streak ended on Independence Day. Houston outlasted Tampa Bay 10-8 in a high-scoring battle on July 4. The Rays fought throughout the game and kept pressure on the Astros until the final innings. Nevertheless, Houston answered with a timely offense and handed Tampa Bay its first loss after nine consecutive victories.
The series concluded on July 5 with a 2-0 Houston victory. Rays pitcher Mason Englert delivered one of his best outings of the season. He recorded a career-high nine strikeouts and gave Tampa Bay every chance to win. Unfortunately, the offense could not solve Houston’s pitching, and the Rays finished the road trip with consecutive losses. Even so, the biggest story of the week came away from the field. Major League Baseball announced the 2026 All-Star rosters, and the Rays earned four selections. Tampa Bay tied for the most All-Stars in the league, highlighting the club’s outstanding first half.
Junior Caminero earned another special honor after fans voted him the American League’s starting third baseman. He captured 67 percent of the final vote and secured the starting job for the second straight season. Caminero also continued his outstanding power display by hitting his 26th home run during the week. His production has made him one of baseball’s brightest young stars. Starting pitcher Drew Rasmussen also received well-deserved recognition. He earned his second career All-Star selection after an incredible June. Rasmussen posted a remarkable 0.82 ERA with 39 strikeouts across 33 innings during the month. His consistency has helped anchor Tampa Bay’s outstanding rotation.
Reliever Bryan Baker reached another career milestone by earning his first All-Star selection. Baker has developed into one of baseball’s most dependable closers this season. He enters the break with 23 saves and a sparkling 1.83 ERA. His ability to finish games has played a major role in Tampa Bay’s success. Meanwhile, Yandy Díaz rounded out the Rays’ All-Star group as a reserve designated hitter. Díaz continues to provide leadership and consistency near the top of the lineup. His steady production has helped keep the Rays’ offense among the American League’s best.
Although Tampa Bay dropped its final two games, the club still enjoyed an outstanding week. The Rays swept Kansas City, extended their winning streak to nine games, and celebrated four deserving All-Star selections. Furthermore, they remained atop the American League with a 52-35 record. Now, Tampa Bay returns home for an important stretch before the All-Star break. The Rays will welcome the New York Yankees for a four-game series at Tropicana Field. Afterward, they will host the Seattle Mariners for a three-game set. Those games will give Tampa Bay another opportunity to strengthen its division lead before baseball’s midsummer classic.
