The AFC South is not one of the strongest divisions heading into 2024. It could be the NFL’s weakest division this season. The Houston Texans were the only team in the division to advance to the NFL Playoffs last season. The same could be the case for 2024. The main problem for the AFC South is the possibility that the entire AFC North will advance to the 2024 playoffs which remains a strong possibility. In fact, it almost happened last year.

The Texans gained a big-time offensive weapon for Quarterback C.J. Stroud after the trade for former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Stroud made big plays as a rookie, leading the Texans to the AFC Wild Card win over the Cleveland Browns. With Diggs on the offense, the Texans will be unstoppable on offense.

Also, having a young, rising defense led by Will Anderson Junior can only mean Houston will get even better on both sides of the ball in 2024. Houston’s development as an NFL powerhouse will accelerate in 2024. It won’t be a major shock if the Texans finish number two in the AFC.

Things didn’t go the Jacksonville Jaguars way last season. After a red-hot start out of the gates, the Jaguars didn’t just cool down, the team went through an outright snap freeze and missed the playoffs. Will the Jacksonville Jaguars led by quarterback Trevor Lawrence get back on track in 2024? Only time will tell.

The Indianapolis Colts lost rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson for the season and things could’ve been better. After a somewhat dismal end to the 2024 season, will the Colts gallop back into the playoffs? The Colts will likely go 2-4 in the division, losing all four games to the Texans and Jaguars which will play a vital role in the team finishing below the .500 winning percentage. The team has one of the league’s better defenses, but it’s still a bit inconsistent. There are promising receivers including Alec Pierce but what will the team accomplish in 2024? Will running back Jonathan Taylor have a big year?

Then there’s Tennessee. This team just hasn’t been the same since the trade to the Philadelphia Eagles when the team traded AJ Brown on draft night. Also, running back Derrick Henry left for the Baltimore Ravens via free agency. However, the team signed former Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard which should help a lot. The Titans also signed former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd. This still feels like a bit of a rebuild that could take at least another season but a few big signings will make this less of an “uphill battle”. The Titans mainly focused on adding talent and depth to the defense during the 2024 NFL draft which could accelerate the rebuilding process.

The team drafted defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat out of Texas and linebacker Cedric Gray out of North Carolina. Also, adding offensive tackle J.C. Latham out of Alabama will help quarterback Will Levis have time to throw the ball. Even with all the big names the Titans added, keeping expectations in check would still be wise. The team still has veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins as well.
