The USF Bulls baseball season has come to an end. Unfortunately, not the way the Bulls fans had hoped. We all know that the goal is to win a national championship. The first goal is to make the regionals and then make it to the College World Series. The 2024 season got off to a weird start. In the first five games, they only played two because of the weather and started 0-2 through those five games. But this is when USF got on a roll sweeping a four-game series over Marist College. Following the Marist College series, they would get their first game vs a good program in the Florida State Seminoles. The Noles would win the game 12-4. The next series would come against the team that used to be in the conference. The War on I4 in baseball in the UCF Knights.

The USF Bulls lost two out of three versus the Knights. After this once again the Bulls would win four games in a row single game against the North Florida Ospreys and Jacksonville Dolphins. After those games, they would take two out of three from the North Carolina A&T Aggies. There were six games left before conference play started. The Bulls went 3-3 with wins coming against the Maine Black Bears, UNC Greensboro Spartans, and the FAMU Rattlers. The first team that they played in the conference would be the Memphis Tigers. The good news is that they took two out of three winning the final two games of the series. They would get another win on the road against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. The next opponent was the Charlotte 49ers on the road the Bulls struggled only winning one game.

The Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman came to play the Bulls at Red McEwen Stadium and just like the first game the USF Bulls won. This game would come after a big loss to the Stetson Hatters 19-9 on the road. After the loss to Hatters, they swept a conference series against the Wichita State Shockers. The Tulane Green Wave would be the next opponent for the USF Bulls and Tulane took two games out of three. The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles came to Tampa and won the game and they won both games vs USF this season. Where the season may have been over was in the next series losing all three against the Rice Owls. Then the next series versus the FAU Owls in which they lost two out of three. Ending with an eight-game home series with a loss to the Stetson Hatters.

The best team in the conference is the East Carolina Pirates and some consider a chance to make an impact in the college world series. The USF Bulls were able to take one win out of three which was game two of a double header. They headed to Gainesville to play the Florida Gators which is a team that could win it all. The Bulls put up a good effort but fell once again. Of the final seven games six were conference games. The only one that was not was versus the North Florida Ospreys which they beat again. Losing two games versus the UTSA Roadrunners means the USF would have to win two out of three versus the UAB Blazers. This would not occur, and it meant the Bulls would not qualify for the AAC Championship.

This would be the third year in a row that USF Bulls would not be playing for a conference title. Shortly after the final game Billy Mohl was relieved of his duty. Athletic Director Michael Kelly is now looking for a new head coach for the baseball program. The Bulls finished the season with a 26-29 record. Under Mohl, they did appear in the Super Regionals once in 2021 after the pandemic year. The program did have some good things happen both Bobby Boser and Ben Rozenblum were named to the first-team all-conference. Let’s see how the 2025 season goes under a new coach and probably new players.
