Who is Marcus Peters?
Peters was born in Oakland and was a huge Raiders fan growing up. Despite being a huge Raiders fan, he was drafted 18th overall in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Raiders’ divisional rival, the Kansas City Chiefs. Peters made a name for himself quickly as he won Defensive Rookie of the Year and had eight interceptions, 2 being pick 6s. Despite Peters’s 19 interceptions in his first three years in the NFL, he was traded to the Los Angeles Rams.
Peters would play well with the Rams but did not make it to a full two seasons with the team. He would again get traded to the Baltimore Ravens in 2019. People began to wonder why a young stud like Peters was always getting traded.
Past Personal Issues
In 2018, a report was that Peters had an uncontrollable temper while with the Chiefs. One of those instances came during the Chiefs week 13 loss against the Jets. Peters was seen throwing a flag into the stands. As a result, the Chiefs suspended Peters for one game for his actions.
In his stint with the Rams, Peters had an altercation with then-Jaguars Cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Ironically, the Rams traded for Ramsey later that season and dumped Peters off to the Baltimore Ravens. Peters still holds a grudge against the Rams for picking Ramsey over him, claiming “F—- them.”
Minimal Effort For The Raiders
Even though he has a questionable history of being a problem for several teams, the Raiders gave the Oakland native a chance to play for the team he grew up rooting for. Peters was signed to a one-year deal for $5 million.
In his 12 games played for the Raiders, Peters accumulated 35 solo tackles (39th in the NFL) and was targeted 50 times, 35 of those allowing a reception.
A lot of low lights highlighted his run as a Raider. In the game against the Bears, on a handoff to the running back, the back was going toward Peters, and instead of Peters trying to tackle him, he extended his arm and let him right through.
Another game that highlighted Peters’s lack of effort came against Tyreek Hill and the Miami Dolphins. We would see Peters jogging across the field throughout the game, not looking to tackle anyone. The following week, against his former team, the Chiefs, Peters was benched during the game.
The Raiders announced on November 27th that the team had waived Peters.
