5 Soul-Enriching Things to Do During Wake Forest Bye Week

You’re starting to wonder what to do this week with your Wake Forest football team taking its bye week this Saturday.

Wonder no more.

Make these idle days productive. Fill your to-do list with actionable moves to bring this Wake Forest season-of-glory to a climax for the ages.

Soul Enrichment One: Watch Delayed Run Pass Option Mesh YouTube Videos

Watch YouTube videos of the Wake Forest delayed run-pass option mesh offense. The longer ones are well worth the time and intellectual expenditure although the shorter ones offer utilitarian value as well. Study the films, and analyze the way Sam Hartman holds that ball in the belly of Justice Ellison for oh so much longer than any other quarterback in football history. Notice it’s sort of like foreplay.

Then see how, with subtlety and guile, he pulls it out and fires a strike to A.T. Perry, Donovan Greene, or Taylor Morin over the top for a 60-yard TD.

After this viewing session, invite your neighbors over for a cocktail party. When you greet them at the door, ask them immediately if they’ve heard of the delayed RPO mesh. Regardless of their answers, open your laptop, click on the video, and walk them through the scheme that has revolutionized college football in a way nothing else ever has.

Then ask them if they have any questions. They’re bound to. One will be why you invited them over to talk about a football scheme; another will be why the team doesn’t fumble the ball often because the running back is never sure whether he’s getting the ball, ultimately, or not.

Soul Enrichment Two: Invite Your Carolina Acquaintances to Join You in Winston-Salem on November 12th

Invite every Carolina person you know to come on over to Winston-Salem on November 12th. Urge those baby blue fans to make the drive from Chapel Hill expecting to ruin the Wake Forest football season for the third year in a row. Get them feeling confident and arrogant, which won’t be hard because they’re natural at that. Tell them you want them there to watch their guy Drake Maye have a bad Daye and no Saye in winning that game.

Soul Enrichment Three: Take Stroll in Reynold Gardens

Drive over to Winston-Salem near the Wake Forest campus and pull into the Reynolda Gardens parking lot. Bring your significant other or spouse for the best results and the highest emotional peaks. Take a stroll in the Gardens.

Notice the flowers and the orange and maroon Fall leaves. Whiff the clean air. Close your eyes. And be joyous your team is 5 and 1 and will end up winning the ACC title when Clemson chokes two games away against Florida State this Saturday and then Syracuse in Death Valley the following weekend.

While strolling through the natural life in the Gardens, think about love and romance for other people – especially Dave Clawson and his entire 2022 squad of heroes. Commit that when you get home you’re going to send every member of the Florida State and Syracuse teams a copy of Norman Vincent Peale’s all-time classic book “The Power of Positive Thinking.”

Soul Enrichment Four: Read Fight Songs In Bed Every Night

Go to Amazon.com and order the book Fight Songs. It’s a beautifully written work of art by Ed Southern, a Wake Forest football fanatic and graduate of our beloved university. Every night this week as you prepare for bed, lie down and read about one man’s passion for Wake Forest football and you’ll feel as if you’re taking an emotional journey with a Demon Deacon soulmate. When finished with the book, read it again because it’s better the second time through. You’ll have time; it’s the bye week.

Soul Enrichment Five: Post Tweet to Herbstreit

Go onto Kirk Herbsteit’s Twitter page and post this message: “I’m one of the six Wake Forest fans.” The goal is to make his Twitter page blow up with 32,000 Tweets with this same message. Then on College GameDay this weekend he’ll mention he’s been bombarded with Wake Forest fan Tweets and that, once and for all, he acknowledges the Wake Forest football fanbase is rapid, growing, and large because the Wake Forest football team is a legitimate, Top 20 program and will be for many years to come.

And then he’ll admit all the times he was wrong picking Wake Forest to lose, that he was ill-informed as well biased against smaller schools because he went to Ohio State, and feels sheepish for being so out of touch with a sport he’s supposed to have expert insights about.
