CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College quarterback Phil Jurkovec (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was named to the Maxwell Award Watch List as announced by the Maxwell Football Club on Monday evening. The award has been presented to the College Player of the Year since 1937 and is named in honor of Robert “Tiny” Maxwell, who was a former standout at Swarthmore College and a renowned sports writer and football official.
Jurkovec, who is on the watch list for the second consecutive year, is one of 12 representatives, including seven quarterbacks, from the ACC on the 85-player list.
Jurkovec played in just six games for the Eagles in 2021 following a wrist injury suffered in week two. Despite the setback, he threw for 915 yards and seven touchdowns, while guiding BC to a 4-2 record. He was named the ACC Quarterback of the Week following his return to the gridiron in a win over Virginia Tech. A week later, Jurkovec was identified as one of eight Manning Awards Stars of the Week; averaging 23.9 yards per completion in a win at Georgia Tech.
In his career, Jurkovec, who arrived at BC from Notre Dame in 2020, has thrown for 3,473 yards and 24 touchdowns in an Eagle uniform. He has also rushed for 472 yards, averaging 3.7 per carry, and eight touchdowns.
