Biggest

Biggest Basketball Boondoggle Ever: The Brooklyn Nets

Are Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden the biggest, most pathetic story in the history of the NBA?

They came together to win a championship. They scatter away from each other now like sixth-grade girls being petty. A championship they did not win. Losers they have become.

Harden left for the Sixers, Durant asked to be traded, and Kyrie continues to be Kyrie and that is not someone you want your kid to emulate.

The entire grand plan has turned into the Brooklyn Basketball Boondoggle.

They couldn’t get along. They didn’t play together. And Kyrie only showed up for games when he felt like it.

In the history of the world, has there ever been a trio of egomaniacs so dysfunctional as these three? In the history of sports, has there ever been a group of players who have come together with higher expectations that have accomplished so little?

Methinks not.

None of these guys are behaving in admirable ways these days. All three of them seem like they caught a disease from each other called extreme selfishness and greed.

Harden basically quit on his Sixers team in the biggest playoff game. Kyrie said he’s the manager of the team after the final playoff loss. What?

And Durant now wants to be traded because he doesn’t think he can win a championship with Kyrie and because Kyrie may not play too often next season because he won’t feel like it. Committed and dependable are words you never use to describe Kyrie.

Showing up to work once in a while gets you fired in most work situations. The Brooklyn Nets should fire Kyrie and no one in the NBA should pick him up. He needs to be out on the street unemployed because that’s what he seems to want most, to not work. OK, Kyrie, don’t work.

Be out of our lives. Waste your talent. Tell us about why you think basketball is not as important to you as not working and joining social causes and doing that instead of what you get paid tens of millions of dollars to do – play a game.

You’re one of the luckiest people in the world to make as much money as you do and you don’t appreciate that. There’s nothing impressive about you. Hundreds of thousands or even millions of people would love to play pro basketball and make the money you make but can’t because they weren’t born with your talent. They practice. They sweat. But almost none of them are fortunate enough to rise to the heights you have financially and professionally.

Yet you don’t appreciate what you have. Is there anything more pathetic and unimpressive than a talented person wasting their talents, squandering a golden opportunity. You’ve been given the keys to a great life, Kyrie, and you don’t even care.

As for you, KD, well it’s becoming clear you’re not as impressive as we thought you were. Your talent is prodigious but your best playing days are behind you. And as great a shooter as you are, Steph Curry will always be a better shooter. And better guy.

And a bigger winner. He’s won four NBA titles. This must annoy you knowing you’ll never win as many as Steph.

Not the way you’re behaving. You jump from team to team leveraging your talent. You’re loaded with money.

But you don’t seem to be such a great teammate. You’re a bit like Kyrie, sorry to say. About yourself, mostly.

Selfish people don’t win a lot of championships. They complain and keep searching for greener pastures, hoping to find happiness and glory someplace else, figuring someone else is the problem.

Word is you want to play for the Phoenix Suns because they’ve got a chance to beat the Warriors and snatch the NBA title. Not going to happen, KD. The Warriors have Steph Curry, the greatest shooter ever, and Klay Thompson, one of the top 20 shooters ever.

They’re teammates. They get along. They pull for each other. Unlike you, Kyrie and the Beard.

I’ve always loved your talent, KD. But I’m starting to wonder about your heart. You seem to have spent too much time around Kyrie.

Like him, you’ve lost your way. And you’re partly to blame for making it this way.
