He was the Angels’ first-round pick in 2020, making just his 11th start in the majors.
The stellar outing was his first complete game going back to his college days at Louisville.
Reid Detmers throws a no-hitter in just his 11th major league start and less than two years after the Angels drafted him out of Louisville.
He is the Angels No. 1 prospect and ranked No. 28 on the BA Top 100 entering this season.

Detmers is just the 25th rookie in MLB history to toss a complete-game no-hitter and the second Angels rookie to accomplish the feat, following Bo Belinsky in 1962.

This was the 12th no-hitter in franchise history and the first by an individual Angels pitcher since Jered Weaver in 2012.
Detmers struck out just two batters in the historic outing, the fewest in a no-hitter since Francisco Liriano in 2011, per Elias Sports Bureau.
Congratulations to Reid Detmers on the no-hitter, but let’s not forget this was a team effort! Detmers’ 2 strikeouts are the fewest in a no-hitter since Francisco Liriano on May 3rd, 2011. Congratulations to the entire Los Angeles @Angels squad on this great achievement.

Detmers entered the game with a career 6.33 ERA and 1.45 WHIP.
He is the only pitcher since 1913 to toss a no-hitter after the starting the game with a lifetime ERA above 6.00 in at least 40 career innings, per Stats By Stats.
Reid Detmers of the @Angels is the only MLB pitcher to throw a no-hitter after entering the game with a career ERA of 6.00 or higher in at least 40.0 IP (since ERA became an official stat in both leagues in 1913).

This was the sixth time the Rays have been no-hit and the first occurrence since Felix Hernandez threw a perfect game in 2012.
Detmers had a memorable outing, and hopefully, it is a sign of bigger things to come for him in the future.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw on the injured list with right SI joint inflammation, per a team announcement several days ago.

Kershaw has “right SI joint inflammation.” Team believes this is a short-term injury. Garrett Cleavinger recalled.
— J.P. Hoornstra (@jphoornstra) May 13, 2022
Inflammation in the SI joint, which is situated where the lower spine and pelvis connect, causes lower back pain.
Kershaw has dealt with back pain throughout his career.
Kershaw did undergo an MRI, which came back “normal” and revealed no structural damage, per Sarah Wexler of MLB.com.

The injury to Kershaw is significant as he started the 2022 season strong.
He posted a 1.80 ERA in 30 innings pitched (five starts) with 32 strikeouts, three walks issued, two home runs surrendered, a 225 ERA+, 2.26 FIP, and 0.73 WHIP.
Hopefully, Kershaw will return when he is eligible to come off the injured list.

James McCann underwent an x-ray this morning that revealed a fracture of his left hamate. He will undergo surgery, and the typical timeline for recovery from this injury is approximately six weeks. He has been placed on the 10-Day IL. Patrick Mazeika has been recalled.
