CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College is 13-16 on the season and 2-10 in the ACC as it welcomes Pittsburgh for a three-game series at the Harrington Athletics Village. Junior second baseman Luke Gold is hitting a team-best .373 with a 1.142 OPS. He has an ACC-leading 15 doubles and five home runs. Sophomore right fielder Cameron Leary has slugged 12 home runs and sophomore first baseman Joe Vetrano has slugged 10. Leary leads the team with 30 walks and 36 runs scored, while Vetrano has driven in a team-high 34 runs. Senior right-hander Joe Mancini anchors the BC rotation from the Friday spot. He is 2-1 with a 4.84 earned run average and .246 batting average against.

ALS Game Returns to Fenway…

 

Boston College’s 10th Annual ALS Awareness Game will be played at Fenway Park on Saturday, April 23 against Virginia Tech. The game will be broadcast nationally on ACC Network at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $10 with 100% of proceeds going to the Peter Frates Family Foundation to benefit families caring for individuals with ALS. The Birdball Long Ball…

Through 29 games, BC has gone deep 47 times; the most on record (2005-present); having previously hit 37 home runs in the first 28 games of the 2008 season. Cameron Leary leads BC with 11 home runs; tied for the most by an Eagle in the first 28 with Tony Sanchez (2008). Joe Vetrano’s 10 home runs are the third most over that stretch. Chris Shaw (2015) and Leary are tied for the most home runs in a season at BC in the BBCOR bat era (2011-present).

 

Coffey is for Closers…

Graduate RHP Brendan Coffey led the NEC with 10 saves and a 0.76 ERA as the closer at Sacred Heart in 2021. He has nailed down six-out saves against Northeastern (3/22) and Wake Forest (4/3). Over his last four outings, Coffey has struck out eight with no runs on four hits in nine innings.
