So let me get this straight, Jumbo Fishhead.

You decided your Texas A&M football team has too many guys who tested positive for Covid-19 so you decided nine days before the game that your team would not be able to play?

OK, but wait. A lot of those guys are likely to test negative for the virus nine days from now so would be ready to play. But even if they wouldn’t be, word’s out a bunch of your players has entered the transfer portal meaning they no longer want to play for your team either because they want more playing time, or want more name image and likeness money opportunities, or don’t like playing for you, or all of the above.

Whatever their reasons, you’re football program is in Chaos County. But there’s more to this, isn’t there? It’s nuanced. You’re one of those unusual Fishheads who engages in nuance.

Several other players have decided they don’t want to play in the Gator Bowl because they don’t want to risk getting injured so they’re best positioned to get selected higher in the NFL draft which means they’ll make bigger bank.

Still, there are still plenty of guys who would play in the Gator Bowl on your team. Is there something else at play here like, say, you’re afraid of losing to Wake Forest with the players who’ll be available and it will stain your reputation and make everybody at Texas A&M hurl insults at you for losing to little Wake Forest?

Is that what’s really going on, Jumbo Fishhead? You’re spinning out the convenient excuse that too many of your players are sick when in reality you don’t want to risk losing to Wake Forest in a bowl game?

I wonder what Texas A&M ivory tower bigshots thought of your character after telling them your team has too many sick guys to play the game especially when your school stands to make millions of dollars to participate. They probably want that money. But you don’t care about their money. You care about your money, the money you won’t make if you lose your cushy job as the Texas A&M coach. You won’t want to risk that and that’s more important to you than your players, assistant coaches, and the entire Texas A&M community.

You’ve shown what’s most important to you, Jumbo, and it’s you. And our Wake Forest is showing what’s important to them and that’s showing up in full force to play a bowl game.

Our Wake Forest team was ready to play – and still is – and we may find another opponent less selfish and timid than you.

That should be pretty easy.
