The prior week in MLB was about a team in the National League setting the wrong kind of record, a starting pitcher is placed on the injured list, and an outfielder is dealing with an injury.

Arizona Diamondbacks Set Modern-Day Record After Losing 23rd Straight Road Game

The Arizona Diamondbacks would prefer to forget the 2021 campaign, and it became worse last week when they lost their 23rd straight road game to the San Francisco Giants.

The team broke a tie with the 1943 Philadelphia Athletics and 1963 New York Mets for the longest road losing streak in the Modern Era, per ESPN Stats & Info.

The last time they won a game on the road was April 25 against the Atlanta Braves when Madison Bumgarner tossed a seven-inning no-hitter.

They have the worst record in MLB and are in the midst of their second losing streak of the season that has exceeded 10 games.

The Diamondbacks have won one game during this month, and it has been a significant struggle for them this season.

The team could set the MLB record for most losses in a season.

The 1962 Mets lost 120 games that year, but it would not be shocking if the Diamondbacks reach that number or exceed it.

Washington Nationals Place Starting Pitcher Max Scherzer on Injured List with Groin Inflammation

The Washington Nationals have placed starting pitcher Max Scherzer on the injured list with groin inflammation, per Jessica Camerato of MLB.com.

The move is retroactive to June 12.

Scherzer had to leave his last start after facing just one batter and reportedly cut a bullpen session short the previous week.

Scherzer pitched well during the 2021 season, as indicated by a 2.21 ERA in 77 1/3 innings pitched (13 starts) with 104 strikeouts, 15 walks issued, 11 home runs yielded, a 172 ERA+, 3.07 FIP, and 0.81 WHIP.

A groin injury for pitchers can be complex as it can be a problem that lingers on if not given the proper treatment.

The Nationals will probably take a cautious approach and allow Scherzer’s groin injury to heal before activating him off the injured list fully.

Los Angeles Dodgers Outfielder Cody Bellinger Returns to Injured List with Hamstring Strain

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger is once again on the injured list with a left hamstring strain.

The hamstring injury is the latest injury for the 2019 National League MVP.

He missed 46 games earlier this season with a hairline fracture to his left leg.

He did undergo shoulder surgery during the offseason.

The Dodgers have dealt with the injuries to Bellinger and other players being hurt, but it has not had impacted the team.

They are second in the National League West, trailing the San Francisco Giants by a couple of games.

World Series MVP shortstop Corey Seager, who had his hand broken by a pitch May 15, is still three weeks away from returning.

Infielder Gavin Lux, outfielder AJ Pollock, and rookie Zach McKinstry have also spent time on the injured list.
