BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Boston College baseball team lost to Rhode Island, 6-3, on a rainy Wednesday evening at the Harrington Athletics Village. The Eagles dropped to 15-19, while the Rams improved to 14-15-1.

URI scored two in the first, but BC posted single runs in each of its first three turns at-bat to lead 3-2 after the second. The Rams regained the lead in the sixth with three runs on two hits and two walks. Right fielder Mark Coley tripled in the tying run and score the go-ahead run; beating the throw home on a ground ball off the bat of catcher Jordan Laske.

Boston College got the tying run into scoring position in the bottom of the ninth. Trailing by three, the Eagles loaded the bases with one out on three singles. A wild pitch moved everyone up a base, scoring a run, and putting the potential tying run at second, but a line out to right ended the game.

Freshman lefty Joe Vetrano (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) took the loss in 1.2 innings of work. Vetrano (0-2) allowed three runs on three hits and two walks. RHP Vitaly Jangols (1-2) earned the win in three innings of one-run ball. Trystan Levesque inherited the bases loaded and one out in the ninth and locked down the save.

Graduate shortstop Brian Dempsey (Potomac, Md.) went 2-for-5 with a double and a RBI. Graduate first baseman Jack Cunningham (South Riding, Va.) also went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run.
