
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 13 Boston College baseball let an early 4-0 lead and a late 6-4 lead slip away as it was swept by No. 15 Louisville in a 7-6 game on Sunday at a rainy Jim Patterson Stadium. The loss dropped the Eagles to 9-5 overall and 2-4 in the ACC, while the Cardinals lifted their record to 11-4 and 4-2.
Louisville’s bottom of the eighth started with a 0-2 single by left fielder Cameron Masterman and a first-pitch hit-by-pitch to third baseman Lucas Dunn. Two batters later, a bunt-single by right fielder Levi Usher, aided by a throwing error, produced a run. Shortstop Christian Knapczyk then put the Cardinals in front for the first time with a two-run triple to right-center.
Sophomore right-hander Max Gieg (Lynn, Mass.) was terrific in his first two innings of relief but ran into trouble in the eighth. Gieg (0-1), who was in line for the win, gave up four runs on five hits with two strikeouts in 2.1 innings of relief.
Right-hander Jack Perkins (1-0) got the win in 2.1 innings pitched as he allowed two runs on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts. RHP Kaleb Corbett notched the save with a scoreless-ninth; walking one and striking out two.
A day after getting shutout, BC snapped a 16-inning scoreless streak with a two-run first inning and added two more on a two-out error in the second. Graduate first baseman Jack Cunningham (South Riding, Va.) was 3-for-4 with a RBI. Sophomore second baseman Vince Cimini (Scranton, Pa.) went 2-for-4 and delivered a two-run double to give the Eagles its 6-4 lead in the seventh.
