AUBURN, Ala. – No. 18 Boston College baseball erased an eight-run deficit in the ninth, all with two outs, and completed the comeback with an 11-9, 10-inning win at No. 25 Auburn to claim the series at Plainsman Park. The Eagles improved to 8-2 on the season, while the Tigers fell to 7-4.

BC used the long ball to plate the tying runs in the ninth and go-ahead runs in the 10th. Junior center fielder Sal Frelick (Lexington, Mass.) put a charge into a ball out to right for a three-run, game-tying home run; his third of the weekend. An inning later, sophomore second baseman Luke Gold (Ballston, N.Y.) added his third home run of the series; a go-ahead shot over the monster in left.

Graduate lefty Joey Walsh (Plymouth, Mass.) came on to pitch the bottom of the ninth with the score tied 9-9. One runner reached in each of his two innings of work on a ninth-inning walk and 10th-inning single that saw the tying run come to the plate. Walsh (1-0) struck out his third batter of the appearance to end the game.

Trailing 9-1, the ninth inning comeback started with a leadoff-single by Frelick. The Eagles chipped away with back-to-back, two-out RBI-singles by Gold and freshman designated hitter Cameron Leary (Bethpage, N.Y.). Auburn went to its bullpen for RHP Seb Thomas with Frelick as the tying run in the hole.

A hit-by-pitch loaded the bases and a walk added another run. Senior left fielder Chris Galland (Sudbury, Mass.) ripped a double past third that brought in to runs and brought the tying run to the plate with the score 9-6.

BC claimed a brief lead in the second inning, on a Leary RBI-double, but Auburn responded immediately with a two-run home run off the bat of designated hitter Cam Hill. On the day, Hill went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a walk.

The Tigers pulled away with five runs on six hits and a walk in the fourth inning despite three strikeouts by graduate right-hander Alex Stiegler (Dallas, Texas), who relieved freshman lefty Joe Vetrano (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) after a 1.1-inning start as the opener.

For Auburn, righty Trace Bright (3-0) threw five innings of one-run ball. He allowed one run on three hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Lefty Peyton Glavine (0-1) took the loss after serving up the 10th-inning home run to Gold.

The Eagles were outhit 12-3 through the first eight innings and finished the day just one back at 13-12. Frelick led the way with a 3-for-5 day. Gold, Leary and graduate shortstop Brian Dempsey (Potomac, Md.) all went 2-for-5.
