The prior week in MLB was about a starting pitcher in the American League making history, an outfielder is placed on the injured list, and a club in the National League is without a key player in the lineup.

New York Yankees Starting Pitcher Gerrit Cole Makes History

New York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole was magnificent in his last outing against the Boston Red Sox and continued his march toward history.

Cole struck out eight batters in seven innings and yielded just one run, which allowed him to earn his fourth victory of the season.

This was the 20th straight regular-season win for him, as he became the sixth pitcher ever to reach that mark.

Since Cole’s last loss in the regular season, he is 20-0 with a 1.94 ERA in 27 starts.

The 27-game undefeated stretch during the regular season is tied with Firpo Marberry for the fourth-longest in baseball history.

Roger Clemens holds the record with a 30-game unbeaten streak in 1998-99, followed by Kris Medlen and Dave McNally at 28 games each.

The Yankees signed Cole during the offseason to be the anchor of the rotation, and he has performed exceptionally well.

Cole has authored a 2.76 ERA in 29 1/3 innings pitched (five starts) with 34 strikeouts, five walks, five home runs surrendered, a 0.85 WHIP, and a 154 ERA+ this season.

New York Yankees Place Outfielder Aaron Judge on Injured List with Calf Strain

The New York Yankees have placed outfielder Aaron Judge on the 10-day injured list with a calf strain, manager Aaron Boone mentioned several days ago, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

Boone added that Judge underwent an MRI and it revealed a “very mild” strain, says Hoch.

The Yankees are hopeful that Judge can be activated off the IL when he is eligible.

He is having a solid 2020 campaign as indicated by his. 290 batting average and 1.101 OPS in 17 games with 16 runs scored, two doubles, 20 RBIs, and leads the AL with nine home runs.

He has played a pivotal role in the Yankees leading the American League East division.

Judge has been hampered by injuries the last two seasons but has shown in 2020 what he can do when healthy.

Atlanta Braves Place Outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. on Injured List with Wrist Injury

The Atlanta Braves will be without a key player in their lineup as they have placed outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. on the injured list with left wrist inflammation, per a team announcement.

The move is retroactive to August 12th, which means he would be eligible to return to the club on August 21st, per David O’ Brien of The Athletic.

Acuna had missed most of the games last week as his wrist was still sore.

The outfielder was having a solid MLB season before the injury, as indicated by his .258 average and .887 OPS in 18 games with 12 runs scored, five doubles, four home runs, and nine RBIs.

Acuna being injured is a significant loss for the Braves as he is one of the best hitters in their lineup.
