BC BASEBALL’s Nelson Named to ACC All-Academic Team

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College rising junior Jack Nelson was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic Team, the league announced on Tuesday. It is the first conference academic honor for the right-handed pitcher.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

Nelson, who hails from Sparta, N.J., made 15 appearances on the mound, including six starts, and registered a 4-1 record with a 2.41 ERA, tops among BC pitchers with at least 15 appearances. Nelson was fifth on the team with 26 strikeouts and opponents batted just .203 against him. He is 6-1 in his two years at The Heights with a 2.92 ERA and 38 strikeouts over 24 appearances. He is a member of the New Bedford Bay Sox in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) this summer. He has logged a 1-1 record with a 13 strikeouts and just six walks over 20.2 innings so far.

The political science major also earned a spot on BC’s Athletics Director’s Award for Academic Achievement this past year.
