Mr. Ohio Football, Mitchell Trubisky, was a legend at Mentor High School. He was top ten in the history of Ohio in career passing yards and touchdowns. Coming out of high school, he was the number one dual-threat QB in the nation according to 247Sports. I won’t say any names, but there is a team picking in the top 15 that is seeking a potential franchise quarterback in the draft, and the UNC prospect seems to be a solid fit for them. Fun fact: Trubisky stated his favorite NFL team is the Cleveland Browns.
Mitchell Trubisky
Class: RS Junior Position: Quarterback
Overview
During the Combine, Trubisky proved he was as athletic as any QB in the draft and he also made a great impression in the passing drills. There is no question that he has all the physical tools to compete in the pros and make a difference for the team that drafts him. The are two major concerns about the former Tar Heel, though. The first concern is his lack of experience as he was only a one-year starter at North Carolina. The second concern is his ability or preparedness to play in an NFL offense. In his brief college career, Trubisky operated in a read-option spread offense and took the majority of his snaps under center. At the end of the day, he is a high risk, high reward prospect.
Analysis
Trubisky possesses a live arm and is capable of throwing the deep ball. He maintains velocity and accuracy when throwing on the run. While in the pocket, he keeps composure in the face of pressure and he can also extend or create plays with his feet. He has solid all-around accuracy, outstanding field vision to find the open receiver, is an efficient passer and he gets rid of the ball out of his hands quickly. With a solid passing acumen, he has the skill set to generate maximum zip on a ball or float it over the top when it’s necessary.
Stats
In Trubisky’s only year as a starter, he passed for a school-record of 3,748 yards and 30 touchdowns while completing an impressive 68% of his passes. He gained 308 yards on the ground to along with five rushing touchdowns. Although a brief career, he is fifth all-time in UNC history in passing yards and touchdowns and seventh in total offense.
