It is that time of the year when many college football teams are taking part in their spring football games. Many fans think that instead of playing against each other, they should play against another team. This will show how the team will stack up against talent. The game took place under a beautiful blue sky with no clouds and a sold-out crowd. It was hot and humid, as there were many coolers for players and staff on the sidelines to make sure no one got dehydrated. As the game started, it was noted that quarterback Bryum Brown would not play. Many thought that maybe he was still injured, but that was not the case. Brown did not play the game because you know what you get with him: an offense that is great with him at the helm.
The USF Bulls got off and showed that once again they are going to run a face-paced offense like the style that the Tennessee Volunteers ran, where head coach Alex Golesh came from. That meant that the first quarterback that the fans saw was backup Bryce Archie. Archie is a good back-up, and he is also a starting pitcher for the USF baseball team that is currently second in the AAC. Archie showed that the Bulls’ offense is ready to play. When they went to the next quarterback, the offense did not miss a step. That quarterback was Locklan Hewitt, who is from St. Augustine, Florida. He got 28 offers and chose USF over Miami, Texas A&M, Pittsburgh, Iowa State, Arizona, Illinois, Cincinnati, UCF, Wake Forest, and Rutgers.

By the end of the first quarter, Hewitt threw two touchdown passes. On his first drive at the helm, it took just three plays for the USF to score a touchdown. Most will say why a team should kick field goals during a spring game. They did that and saw Nico Gramatica, the son of legendary Tampa Bay Buccaneer kicker Martin Gramatica. He showed that he has the same leg as his father had. Nico made a 48-yard field goal, and this will be a big weapon when the season kicks off. When wide receiver Chas Nimrod was trying to make a catch, he missed and slid out of the end zone and ended up at my feet.
The USF defense also showed up, and they had multiple turnovers throughout the game. This has been the side of the ball that has been in question for the last few years. The best part is seeing how well the offense did, and the defense made plays when they needed to. The player who shined in my eyes was Locklan Hewitt at quarterback. But fans are looking forward to seeing Bryum Brown and Bryce Archie at that position. Hewitt is a great player to have if something happens. The Bulls have a tough start to the schedule before they hit conference play, as they start at home versus the Boise State Mustangs, followed by two road games with the Florida Gators and Miami Hurricanes.
