CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College Baseball (9-9, 2-4 ACC) will host No. 17 North Carolina (16-5, 2-4 ACC) for their ACC home opener on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Harrington Athletics Village, the first of three games of the weekend series.
The Eagles are coming off a pair of home victories this week, taking down Sacred Heart 8-3 on Tuesday and shutting out Northeastern with a 6-0 win on Wednesday.
Boston College is 6-31 all-time against UNC. The last time the two sides met, BC won their first-ever series in the series’ history, sweeping the No. 16 Tar Heels in Chapel Hill in April 2023. The Eagles’ last home victory against UNC came on March 20, 2021. In 2023, Sam McNulty pinch hit in the 10th inning of game one and knocked a two-out, two-run single to give BC a 9-7 lead and secure a 9-8 win. In game two, McNulty added a two-run double in the ninth inning, and Joey Ryan earned a two-inning save in BC’s 9-4 win. In game three, Eric Schroeder earned the win after tossing three no-hit innings in the 6-2 victory. Schroeder logged 5.2 shutout innings across two relief outings.
BC is 2-4 in the ACC, most recently losing three at No. 5 FSU, but opened ACC play with a road series win at No. 9 Virginia. BC is off to a 3-0 start at home, most recently taking down Northeastern on Wednesday. In the win, freshman Brady Miller tossed five shutout innings with six strikeouts to three hits, earning the W in his first collegiate start. Hosting UNC, the Eagles will conclude a three-weekend stretch of the ACC series against 2024 Omaha teams, with UNC following UVA and FSU. Josiah Ragsdale leads the Eagles in AVG and SLG, coming off a 2-for-2 day vs. Northeastern, and is tied for second in the ACC with three triples. The Eagles are ranked second in the ACC with 47 stolen bases, trailing only Georgia Tech (48). Adam Magpoc is 13-for-14 on stolen base attempts, and his 13 swipes are third-most in the ACC. Joey Ryan continues to shine out of the bullpen, with a 2.51 ERA and 18:4 K:BB ratio, logging his team-leading third save on Tuesday vs. Sacred Heart. Freshman Gavin Soares has 11 strikeouts in 8.1 innings, with a 2.08 ERA.
All three games this weekend will be free to attend at Harrington Athletics Village and will be aired on ACC Network Extra.
