After spending the last several months in Serbia watching his horses race, drinking beer, and reading Sammy Sportface blogs, Nikola “The Joker” Jokic has returned to the United States to dominate the entire basketball world for another season – despite being pretty indifferent about the sport he is the best on Earth at.
This week he had one of his typical outrageously productive games: 29 points, 18 rebounds, and 16 assists. He launched into the season with this message-sending game that he’s back to win the NBA’s MVP Award for the fourth time in the past five years – and the one year he didn’t win it was an absolute rob job.
But the Joker had a message during the opening press conference that – showing once again his ambivalence about basketball – had nothing to do with his insane early season performance and pursuit of another MVP.
On his mind was Sammy Sportface.
“You guys in the media need to take a page from the book of Sammy Sportface,” he said. “Sportface gets it. You guys write about the day-to-day NBA wins and losses and MVP debates while Sportface writes about how much he loves me every other day. That guy has a style like none of you. I find his content as entertaining as watching my horses race in Serbia.”
This summer he got totally wrapped up reading Sportface’s non-stop blogging about Caitlin Clark.
“He’s as obsessed with Caitlin Clark as he is about me,” said The Joker. “That proves his versatility. He stays on a specific topic for months repeating the same things over and over. You gotta love that guy Sportface. I think the rest of you guys in the media are missing the whole point here. He knows what life is all about – horses, Caitlin Clark, The Joker, and pretty much nothing else. Basketball isn’t that important guys. Reading Sportface taught me that.”
