Spencer Dinwiddie is expected to be waived by the Raptors with Lakers, Mavs, Pelicans, and 76ers already being rumored to have interest in the guard. Philly has also been linked to Kyle Lowry, who was not moved before the deadline but could still be bought out. Victor Oladipo (who was traded from Houston to Memphis last week) has also been waived by Memphis. Oladipo is currently out after suffering a patellar tendon injury in April.

Winners and Losers at the Trade Deadline

New York Knicks-Winner

Including the OG Anunoby trade in late December, the New York Knicks had one of the best trade deadlines this season. The Anunoby trade in late December gave the Knicks another star to pair alongside Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle while moving on from RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley. In the 14 games Anunoby has played with the Knicks, New York is 12-2. With Anunoby currently out with an injury, the Knicks made another great move to bolster their roster before the deadline, trading multiple players for Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks. Bogdanovic has been one of the most highly desired role players in the league for the last couple of seasons, with the Pistons reportedly turning down two first-round picks last season. With the Knicks sitting in fourth in the East, the moves they made help solidify their position as the post-trade deadline period begins.

Chicago Bulls- Loser

Another year, another trade deadline where the Bulls do not make any moves. This is the third trade deadline in a row where the Bulls have not made a trade. Most of the Bulls’ roster was in trade rumors going back to the summer. Zach Lavine was ultimately off the table following surgery but could still be moved this summer. DeMar DeRozan was linked to the Sixers following Joel Embiid’s injury but was not traded. Alex Caruso was linked to many teams throughout the league but will remain with the team. Easily being a game-changer for a contender one of the best contracts in the league, Caruso’s trade value for the Bulls decreases once again as he only has a year left on his deal following this season. Many also expected backup center Andre Drummond to be traded as well but will remain a Bull for the rest of the season unless bought out. For Bulls fans, it’s another disappointing season of “continuity” with a lot of questions already being asked about what the team will do this summer.

Dallas Mavericks- Winner

Even though they lost out on Washington Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma, the Mavericks still made moves to show superstar Luka Doncic that they are trying to build a legitimate contender around him. Instead of Kuzma, the Mavs would trade for Wizards center Gafford. Averaging 10.9 PPG and 8.0 RPG, Dallas adds a much-needed defensive big man to their rotation. The second move they made before the deadline would see the Mavs acquiring PJ Washington for Grant Williams and Seth Curry. Washington has had a solid start to his career in Charlotte but has never been a part of a winning team. The hope is that Washington can contribute to a winning team looking to make a deep playoff run. Even though Dallas traded for Grant Williams this past summer, the team quickly moved on as they know their championship window with Luka Doncic could be short. With the Mavs currently sitting in the play-in picture, these moves could help lock Dallas into a future play-in or playoff spot.

Los Angeles Lakers- Loser

A team that was linked to over a dozen players and superstars since the beginning of the season, the Lakers surprisingly did not make a move at the trade deadline. Many trade rumors and reports noted that the Lakers were looking to trade D’Angelo Russell in almost every package with Rui Hachimura included in some of those potential packages as well. The team made Austin Reaves unavailable, the one player many teams talking to the Lakers wanted. With rumors of frustration from LeBron James, the Lakers are in a very dangerous position. With James saying he wants to play with his son and having a player option this summer, the possibility of him leaving exists. With the Lakers not making any moves to improve the team and the team sitting in the play-in right now, the next couple of months could be hectic for Los Angeles.
