Go Ahead: Deny Joker His MVP — Again

Go ahead. Stick it to him.

Don’t allow Nikola Jokic to win the regular season MVP he so deeply deserves – again! Rob him, like you did last year, of the award that belongs to him.

Lobby for Joel Embiid to win it. He’s great, an unstoppable offensive player. Really special. One of the greats.

But he’s not Joker. No one is. No one was. No one will ever be again.

This guy is playing basketball at a level we’ve never seen before. Sure, Wilt went nuts, but none of us remember that. And he wasn’t as efficient as Joker nor as multi-skilled at elite levels.

He’s – dare I say it – better than Larry Bird. Better rebounder, a better passer, a better inside scorer, and almost as good a three-point shooter.

Amazing to have to admit this. But I’ve watched them both, and I would marry Bird, but Joker has passed Larry Legend already in pure basketball skills consistently.

On Friday night, he did it again: 27 points, 22 rebounds, 12 assists, 2 blocks, and 1 steal. Who does that?

The answer is no one. That stat line has never been posted by an NBA player, according to StatHead.

Bird’s stats were sparkling, but not across-the-board absurd night after night the way Joker’s are.

Listen to this quote in a Clutch Points article from his coach Mike Malone Friday night after the Nuggets win:

“Think about what life was like before Nikola got here. I think people don’t do that. ‘Nine years now, well it’s always been like that.’ No, it wasn’t. Don’t do that. Don’t lie to yourself. What Nikola has done is historical in nature. It’s amazing, that’s why he’s a two-time MVP, he’s a world champion and a Finals MVP. Every night his ability to be great for himself, but more importantly his ability to make everyone around him better. And that truly is the definition of greatness.”

Coaches are supposed to praise their players in public. But this isn’t that. This is a coach saying exactly the truth about his player who is simply spectacular in every way on the basketball court. It’s so hard to make as many shots as he does, at such a high percentage, then whip out 12 assists and, oh, by the way, haul 22 rebounds. This stuff isn’t anywhere close to normal. It’s unfathomable. It’s Gretzky-esque.

But go ahead, don’t give him the MVP. Hand it to Embiid or somebody else. Show either your ignorance about basketball or your bias against certain people. Cheat the man. Try to take him down.

He won’t care. What you think means nothing to him.

Because he’s so much bigger, better, and cooler than all of you.

The Joker’s on you — again.
