Something is going on at the University of South Florida. The football team just came off their first winning season since 2018. The men’s basketball team just came off a big win over the Memphis Tigers who were ranked in the top 10 at the time of the win. We now turn our attention to spring and baseball. Many have seen the USF Bulls play baseball. They open their season at home versus the UConn Huskies. The Huskies used to be in the AAC. The Bulls have a stacked team hoping to have a better season than in 2023. USF’s record was 21-39 and 7-17 in conference play. Many experts say they are good enough to play for second in a conference we all know that the ECU Pirates have dominated.

Coming into the 2024 season, the USF Bulls already have five players who landed on the 2024 Preseason All-Conference team. Second baseman Bobby Boser, outfielder Drew Brutcher, pitcher Jack Cebert, DH Ben Rozenblum, and shortstop Eric Snow are the five. The Bulls got one first-place vote for being the top team in the AAC. The AAC preseason pole currently has the Bulls fifth as the season gets ready to start. The four teams are the ECU Pirates, Charlotte 49ers, UTSA Roadrunners, and FAU Owls. The Owls, Roadrunners, and 49ers are all new to the AAC. Boser had a breakout season in 2023 as a sophomore with a .323 batting average, 15 home runs, and 41 RBIs. He led the conference in slugging percentage hitting .744 and played in the Cape Cod League All-Star this summer. Brutcher is entering his senior season sixth all-time in program history in home runs with 34. He has been selected for the AAC preseason team for the third time. Brutcher was the only USF Bull to start all 60 games in 2023. Cebert pitched 76.2 innings with a 4-4 record with a 5.05 ERA. He kept walks down and had 65 strikeouts and five quality starts. Rozenblum enters his third and final season with USF. He has played in 78 games over the last two seasons. Rozenblum had a .259 batting average. Snow was a breakout player in 2023 as a freshman. He had the top batting average of .343 to lead the program last year with 45 RBI, eight home runs, and 22 extra-base hits. These five players should help the Bulls have a better spring in 2024.

Head coach Billy Mohl is just three years from leading the USF Bulls to the program’s first appearance in the NCAA Super Regional in Gainesville, Florida. USF will have 34 home games to be played at the beautiful USF Baseball stadium. USF will face eight teams that reached the NCAA regional in 2023. The Huskies went 44-17 and Indiana State went 45-17 and these two teams play the Bulls in two of the first three games. They will play three big schools from their home state. FSU late in February on the 27th, the UCF Knights early in March on the 1st-3rd, and the Florida Gators in early May on the 7th. We are looking forward to a good 2024 season that starts three weeks after Valentine’s Day.
