USF will be playing in a bowl game for the first time since 2018. Head coach Alex Golesh is one of the 15 coaches who are finalists for coach of the year. The reason that Golesh is one of the 15 he turned around the Bulls within one season. USF only won one game in 2022 under head coach Jeff Scott. In his first year, Golesh won six games with the Bulls. That is five more wins than in 2022. Only David Braun of Northwestern had a better improvement as he had a six-win turnaround. Golesh also was at the helm when the Bulls won their first road game in four seasons. The USF Bulls were a different team under Golesh.
With that said the USF Bulls will be playing in the Boca Raton Bowl. The game will take place on December 21st. It will be on the campus of the FAU Owls who the Bulls lost to in their homecoming game. This will be the first time in five years that the USF will be in a bowl game. The title sponsor of the bowl game is roofclaim.com. It will be the AAC vs ACC. The Bulls will face the Syracuse Orangemen. The Orangemen finished with the same record as USF at 6-6. Syracuse struggled in conference games finishing with a 2-6 record. The kickoff is scheduled for 8 P.M. EST. For the ones that do not know Boca Raton is a nice area and city in southern Florida.
Boca Raton is close to Miami which is a very popular city in Florida. Early predictions had the USF Bulls playing in the Gasparilla Bowl in their home stadium. That would be Raymond James Stadium and that is where the Bulls played their last bowl game back in 2018 when they lost to the Marshall Thundering Hurd. On the flip side, it ended up being a rival that will be playing in the Gasparilla Bowl at that will be the UCF Knights. The fans of the Bulls will make the 4-plus hour drive south to watch their team play. Coach Golesh and the USF players are excited to be playing in a bowl game. That is the best way to send out seniors to play in one more game.
Seeing both teams under the lights at FAU stadium will be cool. Look for both teams now to prepare for the next two weeks to play against each other. Outside of the Alabama Crimson Tide, this will be one of the more popular teams in college football. Syracuse is a storied program that has won national championships. It should be a complete game between these two teams. This bowl game has been going on since 2014. The stadium has never changed for the bowl game as it has always been played at FAU stadium. Both teams’ fans are set to buy tickets and go down to South Florida.
