For his quixotic commentary on the Wake Forest football season, Sammy Sportface is being honored with a pile of post-season awards.

He was named First-Team All-ACC as a special teams standout, making him the first non-football player to make the squad. He won a National Press Club for sports blogging in the category of “most blogs about one team.” And he’s one of three nominees who will be going to New York City as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy awarded to college football’s best player.

He also entered the transfer portal and has been named the new offensive coordinator for Syracuse against Wake Forest this Saturday.

For the past three seasons Sportface has written repeatedly about the formerly clever Wake Forest delayed run pass option offense in his blogs. Instead of doing anything else, he has studied countless YouTube videos of the intricacies of the offense and will be teaching a crash course to Syracuse players this week of how to run the novel scheme that Wake Forest used to be good at but not anymore.

“We read all his blogs about the delayed RPO on the Sammy Sportface Baby Boomer Brotherhood Facebook Page and were impressed with the amount of detail and nuanced understanding he showed even though some of it didn’t quite add up mentally,” said Stevie Sportface, the Syracuse athletic director who made the hiring decision and is the sports blogging sensation’s half step brother. “The blogs were kind of unclear whether he really understands it or is just blowing smoke to get more followers, but we figure it’s the last game of the year so might as well try something new schematically. Hiring Sammy Sportface could be just the spark our Syracuse football team needs to kickstart us out of our funk. Plus he’s my half step brother and I’m big into nepotism.”

Sportface broke this news while flying to Syracuse by way of Bethesda’s Tastee Diner to join the squad. He’s watching YouTube videos of the delayed RPO mesh to make sure at tomorrow’s practice he can explain it lucidly to the players without confusing anyone.

“The key is getting the quarterback to look at the safety then the linebacker then the quarterback in less than one second, which is pretty impossible, and based on that decide whether to hand the ball off or pass it,” said Sportface. “I called Sam Hartman today to ask him to explain it to me further because he mastered the offense when at Wake Forest. He didn’t return my call. Can you blame him? Why would he help a sports blogger teach Syracuse the Wake Forest offense to beat Wake Forest? That wouldn’t make any sense whatsoever.”
