Texas Rangers Starting Pitcher Jacob deGrom Will Undergo Tommy John Surgery
The Texas Rangers will be without a crucial starting rotation member for the rest of the season.
According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, Jacob deGrom will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery.
deGrom had been out since the end of April with right elbow inflammation.
The Rangers losing deGrom for the rest of the 2023 season is a monumental loss as they signed him to a five-year, $185-million contract in the offseason to anchor their rotation.
The right-handed pitcher has struggled to stay healthy, making just 26 starts over the last two seasons.
He made six starts for the Rangers this season, posting a 2.67 ERA across 30 1/3 innings pitched with 45 strikeouts, four walks yielded, two home runs surrendered, a 162 ERA+, 1.56 FIP, and a 0.75 WHIP.
deGrom has been a phenomenal pitcher in his career, but his issue has been dealing with injuries.
deGrom might pitch for the Rangers next season if he has no setbacks in the operation’s recovery process.
New York Yankees Place Outfielder Aaron Judge on IL Ligament Strain in Toe
The New York Yankees are placing outfielder Aaron Judge on the injured list with a ligament strain in his bruised right toe, manager Aaron Boone announced several days ago, per Brendan Kuty of The Athletic.
Judge suffered the injury when he crashed through the bullpen gate, making an incredible catch against the Los Angeles Dodgers last weekend.
According to David Lennon of Newsday, Boone did not provide a timeline of when to expect Judge to return.
The loss of Judge is enormous for the Yankees as he is not only the best player on the team but also one of the best players in MLB.
Judge won the American League MVP last season and is putting up stellar numbers during the 2023 campaign.
The outfielder has compiled a .291 batting average and 1.078 OPS in 49 games with 51 hits, 10 doubles, 19 home runs, 40 RBIs, and three stolen bases.
He also leads the AL with a .674 slugging percentage and a 194 OPS+.
The outfielder might be out for a couple of weeks as this type of injury takes time to heal.
New York Mets First Baseman Pete Alonso Out Several Weeks with Left Wrist Injury
Per a team announcement, the New York Mets placed first baseman Pete Alonso on the injured list with a left wrist bone bruise and sprain.
Given this type of injury, the Mets expect Alonso to be out for three-to-four weeks.
Alonso was injured last week when a pitch hit him against the Atlanta Braves.
The loss of Alonso for the Mets is vast, as he provides plenty of power in their lineup.
Alonso has had a solid 2023 season with a .231 average and .872 OPS in 62 games with 53 hits, 41 runs scored, 22 home runs, 49 RBIs, and two stolen bases.
