How To Train Like an Olympian at Home

Who wouldn’t want to look like (not to mention feel like) an Olympian? They are the best of the best in their respective sports, showing off fantastic physiques, unfaltering stamina, and unwavering strength in the faces of their opponents. If you’ve always wanted to train like an Olympian, you’re in luck. You can do it right from the comfort of your home.

 

Start With What You Eat

Before you even get into the workouts, you need to ensure that you do a proper overhaul of your diet. Olympic-level performance and energy require you to eat lean, healthy meals every 3-4 hours, and that includes never skipping a breakfast of lean protein and complex carbohydrates. It is also important to drink enough water. Most Olympians drink half their water in ounces per day (a 180-pound Olympian would drink 90 ounces). However, there is also such a thing as water toxicity, so if you are at a higher weight right now, talk to your doctor to determine how much water you should be drinking.

 

Train Every Day

It’s easy to work hard a few days a week and feel like you need to take time off, but if you truly want to train like an Olympian, you need to stick to a daily routine. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to go into beast mode all day every day, though. While many of your workouts will be hard and intense, you can change them up sometimes and rest your body by doing easier stretches or lifting weights. Be Specific About the Type of Training You Do

You need to be more specific in your training as well. Are you interested in sprinting or running marathons? You’ll need to learn how to increase the strength in your legs and how to gain endurance. Olympian soccer players focus on building strength and learning how to maneuver well on the field. Consider what you want to accomplish as you create your workout routine. 

 

Work With a Personal Trainer

Unless you happen to be a fitness guru yourself, chances are you’re going to need a little help from time to time. Determining what your goals are, learning how to best reach them, and keeping yourself motivated are a lot harder when you’re doing it all alone. Consider heading to your local gym and hiring a personal trainer to help you. He or she can talk to you about your current fitness levels, determine how you can best get to where you want to be, and help you along the way by creating workout plans that meet your needs.

 

Be Sure To Rest

Yes, in general, you should train at least some every day. However, you need to know when to rest, too. In a general sense, that means making sure that you get enough sleep every night. Aim to go to bed a little earlier each night (and not scroll through Facebook for an hour) until you are averaging 7-9 hours of sleep per night. In addition, if you injure yourself while you’re working out, take the proper time to heal before getting back into your routine. This is essential for preventing further damage.

 

Whether you’re just getting into your fitness routine or you already go hard and just want to go harder for yourself, training like an Olympian is a lofty goal. Even so, with the right resources, it’s not unattainable.
