At 3 pm Eastern on Thursday, the NBA free agency of 2022 began. Many players re-signed with their teams while some players found new homes. The following players have resigned to their teams in free agency thus far:

Devin Booker: Four-Year, $224M super-max extension with Phoenix Suns
Bradley Beal: Five-Year, $251 max deal with Washington Wizards

Jae’Sean Tate: Three-Year, $22M deal with Houston Rockets
Nic Claxton: Two-Year, $20M deal with Brooklyn Nets

Davon Reed: Two-Year deal with Denver Nuggets
Gary Harris: Two-Year, $25M extension with Orlando Magic
Kyle Anderson: Two-Year, $18M deal with Minnesota Timberwolves
When looking at some of the players who have been re-signed, there are several great re-signings. The best one to look at is Nikola Jokic with the Denver Nuggets. Signing the richest contract in NBA history, the two-time MVP has been one of the best centers in the league for the last handful of years and has shown his true dominance, being a back-to-back MVP. It’s highly unlike that Jokic leaves the Nuggets before or when his contract ends unless something goes extremely wrong with the team in the next few years. The same can be said for Devin Booker. Booker has grown tremendously over the last few years, with the young guard finishing top-five in voting this season. After a trip to the finals in 2021 and the Suns looking to be one of the top contenders in the West for the next handful of years, re-signing Devin Booker is the key to their continued success. Signing Ja Morant to a rookie max contract was one of the best deals to happen on night one of free agency. Morant had a breakout year, was in the MVP conversation at times throughout the season, and led the team to the second seed in a loaded Western Conference. Looking at Bradley Beal’s decision to re-sign with Washington, the question is whether he’s going to stay or not. Beal has been in trade rumors for years and has talked about wanting to win, something he has not seen much of in Washington. It’s likely that Beal will finally request a trade over the course of his new deal. For signings such as Lu Dort, Anfernee Simons, Bobby Portis, and more, these players may not superstars, but are core members of their teams and keys to winning.
The following players have signed deals with new teams in hopes of winning an NBA championship, securing the bag, and more:
JaVale McGee: Three Year, $20.1M deal with Dallas Mavericks
Jalen Brunson: Four Year, $104M deal with New York Knicks
Juan Tuscano-Anderson
PJ Tucker: Three-Year, $33.2 deal with Philadelphia 76ers
Malik Monk: Two-Year, $20M deal with Sacramento Kings
Joe Ingles: One-Year deal with Milwaukee Bucks
Isaiah Hartenstein: Two-Year, $16M deal with New York Knicks
DeAndre Jordan: One-Year, veteran’s minimum deal with Denver Nuggets
Daniel House: Two-Year, $8.5M deal with Philadelphia 76ers
Lonnie Walker IV: One-Year, $6.5M deal with Los Angeles Lakers
Troy Brown Jr.: One-Year, veteran’s minimum deal with Los Angeles Lakers
Damian Jones: Two-Year deal with Los Angeles Lakers
Andre Drummond: Two-Year, $6.6M deal with Chicago Bulls
When looking at deals with new teams, there are not many big deals. The biggest deal to a new team so far is Jalen Brunson, who left the Dallas Mavericks to join the New York Knicks for $104M. It was reported that Brunson did not meet with the Mavericks and that the deal with the Knicks was all but done hours before NBA free agency began. Brunson’s performance throughout the 2021-22 season as well as his playoff performance helped in getting Brunson that contract, and now it’s up to Brunson to live up to that contract in the Big Apple. While Brunson left Dallas, the Mavs signed one of the best veteran big men in the league in JaVale McGee. Having a great season with the Suns, the 34-year-old big man hopes to help the Mavericks make another deep run in the playoffs. The same can be said for PJ Tucker, who is signing with Philadelphia after a Conference Finals trip with the Miami Heat and a championship with Milwaukee in 2021. While he has not provided much on the offensive end, Tucker has been a key on defense and a great veteran presence in the locker room.
At the time of this writing, there are still many big-name players who have not re-signed with their current team or found a signed a deal with a new team. James Harden is expected to talk with the Sixers over the weekend about a deal. DeAndre Ayton has not found a new home yet, despite the rumors that he is done in Phoenix. Rumors of Zach Lavine re-signing with the Bulls came out earlier today, but he has not re-signed with the team or signed with a new team yet. It is likely that some of the remaining big names may delay signing or re-signing with teams due to the Kevin Durant situation. With Durant requesting a trade on Thursday afternoon and almost half of the league contacting the Nets with offers, some deals are most likely being put on hold to see where KD lands. Wherever he does land, it’s sure to make that NBA team a contender and free-agent destination if it’s not already.
