For those who love playing the game of golf, it takes the courses to make that happen. With those golf courses, it takes many men and women to keep them in shape. I worked at a golf course for 11 years. I saw our superintendent and his crew deal with many different aspects to keep the course in shape. From big things like the elements to small things like making sure they had replacement grass to fill all the divots on the golf course. Most of that grass is grown on the driving range. That is also where many golfers either visit before their rounds or days before they hit the course. The grounds crew must watch how much grass they use to replace it on the golf course. At the course I worked at they would take off the back of the driving range.

That was before the golf course decided to add new greens and tee boxes. During that process, they installed what they call a sod farm. After that, any of the many divots that were on the 18 tee boxes were replaced by that. Another way that they helped the divots grow back was by adding seeds to the sand that we had in all our golf carts. For the ones who have played, there are one or two on every cart. Out of common courtesy, you are supposed to fill in every divot that you make. Trust me not everyone does. I will tell you my own personal story I was playing in Daytona Beach, Florida with my uncle and my dad. We made sure that we filled our divots in as that was something that my uncle taught me when I started playing the game.

The ranger who is employed to help keep the pace of play and make sure everything is running smooth saw what we were doing. When we finished the round, he gave us all a free round of golf because of us replacing our divots in the fairway. This helped the grounds crew not have to use their sod farm or grass of the driving range. The golf course needs a driving range as it is hard for the ones that do not. I, myself, use the one at the course I worked at. The golf course I worked at was Cove Cay Country Club in Clearwater, Florida. The driving range had grass and artificial mats. On certain days, to give the grass a break, we would use the artificial turf. Our grounds crew also fertilized the course and range multiple times a month.

This is one of the challenges of maintaining a golf course. The golf courses that you see on television our maintained very well. The course I worked out is where many amateur players play and the members of the golf course. I have gotten to play on some of the courses that the PGA Tour plays on. No matter what kind of golf course it is, without the grounds crew it would just be a landfill. It also takes the work of the golf course staff like me to also help aid them in that.
