LYNN, Mass. — The North Shore Navigators will be welcoming two players from Elon University to their 2022 roster in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL).
Joining the outfield will be Justin Cassella, a Bernardsville, N.J., native who earned 2021 Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie honors after hitting .276 with 14 extra-base hits, 16 RBI, and 27 runs scored in 31 games. Cassella slugged .466 and recorded nine multi-hit games for the Phoenix after joining the program as the No. 75 overall prospect in New Jersey out of Seton Hall Prep, where he played shortstop and center field. He has 10 RBI, six doubles, and a pair of home runs during his current sophomore season.
Catcher Alex Duffey, who hails from the same hometown as Cassella, will come to the North Shore following his freshman year at Elon. Duffey logged four hits and reached base at a .344 clip through his first seven starts this season, having recorded his first career multi-hit game and RBI against Longwood. He played at Immaculata High School and earned First Team All-County honors as a senior after playing a prior varsity season at Seton Hall Prep.
Cassella and Duffey are teammates with former Navs pitcher Cam Seguin, a Woburn native and Austin Prep grad who is currently in his first season at UConn. The Phoenix will be playing nearby next weekend when they face Northeastern in a three-game CAA series in Brookline.
The Navigators kick off their 15th summer of collegiate baseball on Tuesday, June 7 with the home opener at Fraser Field set for Thursday, June 9. Stay up to date on the latest Navs news by visiting nsnavs.com and following the team on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
