CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Boston College baseball team dropped the decisive, third game of its series to Miami, 12-2, at Mark Light Field on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles fell to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in the ACC, while the Hurricanes moved to 11-4 and 2-1.

The game was scoreless through three before BC plated the first run of the day. Miami answered with three in the bottom of the fourth and led the rest of the way.

The Eagles cut the deficit to one in the fifth on a home run by sophomore right fielder Cameron Leary (Bethpage, N.Y.), but the Hurricanes added some insurance with four runs in the sixth and pulled further away with four more in the seventh.

UM shortstop Dominic Pitelli drove in three runs and went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs. First baseman CJ Kayfus and left fielder Edgardo Villegas each added three RBI at the top of the order.

Miami RHP Alex McFarlane went five innings in the start with two runs against on five hits and two walks to go with six strikeouts. Junior right-hander Max Gieg (Lynn, Mass.) threw three shutout innings in the start for BC but did not factor into the decision. He walked four and did not allow a hit. Freshman RHP Eric Schroeder (Ridgewood, N.J.) took the loss in one inning of work with three runs charged to his line.
