NEW ORLEANS, LA – The UMass Lowell baseball team (0-2, 0-0 AE) fell to the Tulane Green Wave (2-0, 0-0 AAC) 11-0 on Saturday afternoon.

“We didn’t play well in any facet today. We just need to stick with our process,” said head coach Ken Harring. “The season is a journey. We will remember how this feels when we start putting things together.”

Tulane got on the board early in the first inning after the River Hawks went three up, three down to open the game. Junior Trey Brown (Rochester, N.Y.) hit a double into left field for the first hit of the day for UMass Lowell, but the score remained 1-0 after two.

The door was open for the River Hawks to get on the scoreboard, as junior Matt Tobin (Poland, N.Y.) was walked to start the third. UMass Lowell was unable to take advantage as the junior was picked off at third to end the inning. Freshman LJ Keevan (Holden, Mass.) pitched well in the bottom half of the inning and got out of a jam to keep the deficit to one run.

Dylan Carmouche kept the River Hawks off the board and gave up a few hits, allowing Tulane to push the lead in the fifth. The Green Wave bats got going as they found gaps in the defense to extend the lead into the midway mark of the game.

The Green Wave would score four runs in the next two innings to lead 6-0 heading into the seventh. A solo shot and an RBI double in the seventh put Tulane ahead 8-0. Three more runs in the eighth capped off an 11-0 win for the Green Wave.

Keevan made his first collegiate start and pitched 5.1 innings, throwing 52 strikes on 90 pitches. Fellow Freshman Hayden Duke (Mattapoisett, Mass.) made his collegiate debut, coming in for the eighth inning to close the game for the River Hawks.

Brown and senior Robert Gallagher (Mullica Hill, N.J.) finished the afternoon with two hits in four at-bats each. Game three of the weekend series is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT at Greer Field on Sunday, February 20.
